How are you guys liking it so far, even if there's no Jay Park yet? -Mu

Driving back home, I thought of Danny. He was such a great guy. He had the cute fuck boy hair cut that most guys have these days, but it was curly and looked cute on him. He wore hipster glasses that his nerd self actually needed. He had a good fashion sense and knew how to treat girls right.
So why the heck was her amazing best friend still single?
I smiled as I formulated a plan in my head.
Operation: Find the Danster a Girl
I paused.
'I'll figure out a better name later,' I thought.
I blinked as I pulled into my driveway and gasped.
I wasn't paying attention the whole drive home.
I could have died.
Seriously, how did I not die?
Shaking my head at myself, I grabbed my backpack and walked into my house.
"Mom? Dad?" I called out, shutting the door behind me.
"In the kitchen," I heard my mother yell back.
Following the noise of clanging pots and pans, I found my mother.
"Hi, mom." I said, kissing her on the cheek.
"Hey, sweetie. How was your day?" She said, putting dishes away.
"Busy, as usual. The teachers have assigned monumental amounts of work to prepare us for finals. Alice worked us into the ground because she wants everything absolutely perfect for Saturday. And Danny is a doof as always." I smiled. "How was your day, Mom? How was your first day as the dean of Northside State University?"
My mom beamed. "It's wonderful. Very different from my last position. Much better, but much more work."
I grinned at her. "Nothing my super mom can't handle."
"Oh, hush. Go set the table. Dinner will be ready in five." She said, a smile gracing her face.
My mom was 42, but she barely looked anything above 28. Her hair used to be as long as mine when she was my age, but now it reached just below her shoulders, making her look sophisticated. It used to be as dark as mine, too, but now it was blessed by strands of gray.
She was small, barely brushing my chin, but she could be scary if she needed to be.
With that in mind, I agreed. "Yes, ma'am. I just need to run my bag upstairs." She nodded.
I went up the stairs quickly, throwing my backpack onto my bed, cringing when I remembered my laptop was in there. Praying it was okay, I ran back down the stairs and set the table.
Not long after, my mom brought in the food. Spaghetti with Italian meatballs, garlic bread, and fried chicken.
'Yes, come to momma,' I thought, almost drooling.
As I made my plate, I questioned my mom. "Hey, where's Dad?"
My mom looked up sharply, as if startled.
"Oh," She paused. "I think he's working late today, honey."
"Oh, wow." I said, confused. "Dad never misses family dinner. He's the one who made it and said 'No excuses whatsoever.'" I mimicked him.
"Yes, I know. I think he just wants to help out more. You know how men are, they want to be the main providers."
"I guess that's true." I agreed.
So, we ate dinner that night without my dad.
A/N: I know it's short, but I hope the next chapter makes up for it and you forgive me. c:
