Stiles had fallen asleep on the sofa, curled up in a ball with his face trained in the direction of Ashley. Derek, however could not sleep. He was stuck in a tornado of his own thoughts, which were swirling and spiralling around his head. His mind wouldn't shut off. So, instead he grabbed himself a glass of warm milk and sat next to Stiles' sleeping body. He watched how his daughter's body mimicked Stiles', how they breathed in time with each other and it made his heart warm. He was drifting off with moments but then he sat up straighter, at the thought of Cora visiting tomorrow morning and he panicked. This place was not only a mess with dried up beans left on plates which were piled to the ceiling and high, but Stiles and his daughter were here. What the hell would she make of that?!

Morning came around quicker than Derek wanted, Ashley woke up rubbing her eyes and tears formulated as she couldn't figure out where she was. She sniffed the air carefully tracing down the scents of her two fathers. Stiles wasn't awake yet, despite it being almost ten in the morning. Ashley made grabby hands towards Derek, knowing that he was awake. So he got up and hauled her onto his hip and she settled there, her head leaned on Derek's chest. He was happy bobbing her up and down for a while, until the door was knocked upon. Derek turned to the sound, as did Ashley, curious.

He made a beeline for the door. He knew exactly who it was but he was still fearful. He swung the door open.

"Derbear!" Cora held her arms open wide and then they drooped in surprise. "Who is this?" The little girl wriggled in Derek's arms, kicking her feet with excitement of meeting a new person.

"This is Ash." Derek smiled at his daughter. Cora squealed.

"She's so cute!" Cora the stopped and frowned at Derek. "Wait, did you adopt by yourself?" Derek frowned.

"I didn't adopt her." He shifted out of the way, so Cora could come inside.

"Where's your wife then?" Cora grinned widely, her freckles adding to her natural beauty. Derek used to have freckles, but they disappeared a long time ago.

"I don't have one." Cora's eyes wondered across Derek's apartment, considering calling the police as her brother had clearly gone mad by kidnapping a child. Then he eyes widened, her eyebrows rose and her mouth twitched.

"Oh, Derek..." Cora stared at Ashley, making her squirm under Derek's hold. "You and Stiles...you're together?" Her grin was wider than Derek had seen in a while, his sister proud that Derek could say he was bisexual and not be embarrassed in front of his family.

"No, we're not." Derek grumbled and kissed Ashley's cheek, she giggled in return. Cora's grin fell and her face stuck to an expression of confusing and anger.

"You had a fling?" Cora folded her arms over and scowled at her brother. "You didn't use protection?" Stiles stirred on the sofa, a small yawn as he sat up.

"Der?" For a moment, Stiles was thrown back three years. He hadn't called Derek that for some time... Then he rubbed his eyes, a behaviour which had rubbed off on Ashley. "What-Cora?" Stiles' eyes widened and his eyelashes fluttered as he blinked multiple times incredulous.

"Stiles!" Cora smiled, going to sit next to him on the sofa. She frowned at the dried up drool Stiles had left on the closest pillow to her leg. "So, you and Derek had a baby?"

"Well," Stiles had an unsettled look on his face. "She's not so much of a baby anymore." This conversation is one Stiles dreads every time he sees people. The one where they ask what adoption agency he went through (usually humans) or who's child it was. It hurt to have the conversation, the familiar pang in his chest as he spoke up.

"Have you been living here for years then, together? You dealt with this together, right? Why are you asleep on the sofa?" Stiles wasn't feeling up to explaining Cora's many questions, he looked down, keeping quiet. Cora raised her eyebrows, demanding some form of answer.

"I-uh, left Stiles a few years back." Derek tickled Ashley a little, being watched by Stiles, who noticed how Derek's eyes lit up as he played with their child.

"You didn't strictly just leave me, did you?" Stiles mentioned, a harsh tone had risen on his voice, not only irritated but hurt by Derek and his God holy awful decisions.

"I left Beacon Hills..." Derek averted his eyes to the floor, staring at the wooden flooring and the oak colour almost reflecting in his eyes, as if they were glassy with tears. But Derek wasn't much of a person to show his emotions, he cleared his throat.

"Give her here." Cora demanded, taking Ashley from his arms. "How could you?" Derek looked like a child who had just had his lollipop snatched from him, he didn't know what to do with his hands.

"Don't worry, I was already greeted with strong words." Derek said, ashamed. Cora smacked her brother's face, probably harder than she had expected.

"You deserved that." She frowned at her brother. They both knew that Derek clearly regretted this and how Talia would be disappointed in him. "I thought mother brought you up better than that." She sat next to Stiles with Ashley in her hands, now ignoring her brother. "How old is she?"

"She's uh, three years old." Stiles smiled sheepishly, casting a glance over to Derek's reddened face. "Derek, was there during the birth at least." Stiles said, smiling and Cora grumbled, still annoyed.

"Oh my gosh," Cora squeezed Ashley's sides and she squealed in excitement. "Who's a big girl?" She grinned widely at her niece. "I see mom in her." Derek's mind snaps to his mother as Cora mentions her. Her long brown hair and eyes which Derek also had. He stared at his daughter, his eyebrow twitching with sadness. Talia was Derek's heroine.
