"I met him on campus. His name is Tom, he's so sweet and charming and I just know you'll like him."
I doubt it.
"Yeah I'm sure I like him too." I said smiling weakly.
"Do you guys live together?"
I asked, horrified that she'd say yes. Horrified that I'd have to sleep under the same roof as the girl I loved and her lover.
"No, not yet"
She said pouting slightly
"We've decided to wait until we tie the not."
Thank God.

"I've told you my news now, what's yours?"
Elise asked, taking her eyes off the road long enough to smile at me.
God she's so beautiful.
"I'm a lesbian." I replied abruptly.
"I- oh" Elise said obviously surprised.
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?" She asked with a laugh, "girl you know I don't care either way."
"Because I just accepted it myself," I replied truthfully.
"Well I'm glad you told me." Elise said grinning, "and I hope you know I love you either way.
"I love you too." I replied
If only you knew.

"Wow this place is huge." I said upon entering Elise's newly furnished two bedroom apartment.
To outsiders the apartment was pretty average sized, but most apartments in New York are about the same size of that closet I've been hiding in for the last twenty plus years of my life so I appreciated the extra space.

"Thank you girl, that's the guest room over there." She pointed to the bedroom on the far left.
"The bathroom is down that hallway first door on the right and the kitchen is right over there help yourself to anything you want girl, you know the drill."
"Thanks." I said with a laugh. Man, I'd really missed my best friend.

I made my way into my bedroom and shut the door. I sat silent on the edge of the bed for a few moments, letting the emptiness envelope me.
Then the tears started to fall.
