Awkward isn't the word for it.
This was downright excruciating.
Nadia looks like she's just been caught stealing out of the cookie jar.
Tom looks like he's just been backhanded for absolutely no reason.
And I... well I haven't stopped crying yet so at the moment I look like a tsunami hit me.
Still, I couldn't help but laugh imagining the way this looks on the outside.
Me. Sitting in between my fiancee and my lover, each of them holding one of my hands. Balling my fucking eyes out.
I have no idea how I'm going to handle this.
"So..." Tom said breaking the silence.
"We're all adults here, I'm sure there's a mature way that we can handle this."
Despite the pride in his voice I could tell that he was hurting.
"Agreed," Nadia spoke up, "I don't see a reason to make this any more difficult than it already is." she finished, squeezing my hand in comfort.
"True." Tom replied avoiding Nadia's gaze.
"Still though, the matter stays the same. Elise... you need to choose."
I met his gaze, eyes welled with tears.
"You don't want me to do that."
The entire table shook with surprise.
"I'm sorry, what did you just say?"
"You heard me."
He stared back at me.
"I love you Tom, I do; but if I had to choose... I'd-"
"You don't have to say anything else."
Tom interjected pain etched into his features.
"I can let myself out."
He slowly rose from the table and headed in the direction of the front door.
"Tom."
He turned around, tears in his eyes, one hand on the doornob.
"I'm sorry."
He stared back solemnly before responding.
"Me too."
"I'll be back next week to get my things."
And with that, he was gone.
I stood there in silence for a moment, then turned to face the girl I loved.
"Any chance that turned out how you expected?"
