My head hanging at the back of the couch, I laugh at the movie that we are currently watching.
I lean into Conor and kiss his cheek, he looks down at me and kisses my temple softly, we look back at the TV to find our youngest standing in front of the TV, a notepad and pen in hand :
« Mum, Dad, I need your help » she asks
Conor turns off the TV and answers :
« Anything sweetheart »
She sits on the coffee table in front of us and says :
« We have an assignement to give in tommorow and the assignement is to tell the class how your parents met so, how did you and dad meet ? »
I look up at Conor and smile as I turn back to our daughter :
« Your dad and I met on a blind date.
Your aunt Tanya and uncle Jim never understood why I stayed single for so long and one day they told me that we were going out to a restaurant, just the three of us.
We arrived and started to order when the waiter was going to clear the fourth seat but Jim said to leave it, and when he said to leave it, I knew that I was being set up.
I thought I was being stood up at first but then your father arrived.
He was soaking wet because of the rain, worry flashing in his eyes because he was late.
He kept apologising to Jim and Tan until he saw me and just stopped talking.
He sat beside me, shook my hand and the first thing he said to me was :
« I'm sorry for making a beautiful woman such as yourself wait for a guy like me »
Your dad was and still is a smooth talker... »
« It's in the Maynard blood » Conor interrupts as he wiggles his eyebrows
« I was mad at him at first but the more he talked, the more the anger disappeared into thin air.
I wasn't even sure if your dad and I were going to see each other again until your dad texted me and asked me to go out with him for lunch and I accepted.
And since that nearly failed blind-date, your father and I have been together »
I feel Conor's gaze on me, mine turning to him as I hear a small sigh coming from our daughter :
« I hope that'll happen to me one day »
« Wowowowo, not so fast princes, you still have a lot of time » Conor says
I think that the day that his little girl gets a boyfriend, he'll have a heart attack...
