Amy swallowed and looked at their daughter, who was sucking on her pacifier, unaware that she did something wrong. She glanced back at Luke, whose forehead vein was almost popping out.
"I said, what happened here?" Luke said, dropping his tablet carefully on the seat and facing Amy squarely."I... I..." Amy stuttered, glancing at her sandaled feet.
"Look at me when you're talking to me," Luke growled, gripping her chin and jolting her face to his harshly.
Amy was on the verge of tears. Her chin quivered as she balled her hands into fists, scared and angry at the same time. She looked into his eyes, the blood rushing into her head, the fierce pounding, the thump thump of her temples.
"I-"Simon, who'd been darting his eyes from the driver to his father and back again suddenly pushed his father's hand, yelling: "Don't hurt my mom!"
Luke, surprised, dropped his hand from her chin, before a smile appeared on Luke's face, a smile so sinister, Amy and Simon shivered simultaneously, their faces pale, their hands tightened. "So you've started teaching our son to be a man, eh? We'll see whether he's man enough now. . ." He made to backhand Simon, grinning. He looked like a monster.
"We're here," the driver interrupted, looking from the rearview mirror, the frightened faces of the wife and children and the near murderous look of the husband. Amy breathed a sigh of relief and glanced worriedly at her children from the corner of her eye. The latter calmly lowered his hand in contrast to the rage burning in his eyes, adjusted his tux and muttered: "We'll see."
Amy gulped, the blood pounding in her ears. It seemed like it was in slow motion as Luke got out of the car and walked towards the hotel's revolving doors.
Simon reached for his mother. "Oh, mama. . ." He held her tight, as Amy buried her face in his hair and exhaled shakily, shutting her eyes tightly so as not to let the tears come out. The driver watched, concerned.
"I'm fine, baby, I'm fine. Let's just all go out and have fun, yeah?" She smiled a smile that didn't reach her eyes, the kind of smile Simon knew and recognised well, the kind of smile that didn't make her eyes crinkle."Alright, mom," He said, making sure to support his mother. The driver motioned for her children to exit the car and watched, eyes burning, as mother and children made their way to the hotel.
