Bakugo hesitated at the doors of the hospital. He had been going there every day for the past six months. But today was different. Today was going to be the last day he stepped through these doors until something unthinkable was to happen to him. He took a deep breath, shoved his hands in his pockets, and walked through the doors.

He didn't need to stop at the reception desk. They knew him, recognized his explosively spiky hair and permanent scowl on his face. Some of the receptionists wave to him, giving him sad, pitying looks. They knew what he was here for and they felt bad for him. What happened was so tragic. One receptionist filled in the visitor log for him as he walked to the elevators.

He punched the button and when the doors opened, he punched another one, putting his hand back into his pocket. Usually he brought flowers, always making sure to bring her favorite. But if he wasn't going to come back, then he didn't see the point in bothering.

When the doors opened back up again, he walked out and turned down the hall, counting down the doors until he reached hers. It was closed and he stood there for a long moment, trying to calm himself down. He wasn't angry or upset for once in his life. Instead he was just... sad. Sad and guilty. She wouldn't be in here if it wasn't for him. She would still be happy and healthy and smiling, looking at him with that infuriatingly cute grin, calling out to him.

But no. He fucked up hard.

It happened six months ago. They were out on a mission for his agency. A villain had started wreaking havoc on a small town and since they were the closest, Bakugo and _____ were called in to help. By the time they got there, most of the village was leveled. Citizens and passersby were either cowered in what buildings were still standing or crushed under the fallen debris. The blood bath was absolutely terrible.

The villain, a nameless loser with a gigantification quirk was stomping around, raging nonsense about how he should be worshiped as king of this "pitiful world." The two up and coming heroes jumped into action almost immediately.

They were kicking ass, not even bothering to take names, and just as Bakugo was about to deliver the final blow from his Stun Grenade attack, the giant swung out his hand in a last ditch effort to stop his downfall. Bakugo hadn't expected it. He was just about to pull the pin on his gauntlet when the hand came sweeping around.

He didn't even hear her shout as she jumped and pushed him out of the way, taking the hit herself. She flew twenty feet before she hit the side of a broken wall and fell to the ground. Bakugo's eyes widened and shouted out to her, but he knew he couldn't go help her until he took care of this asshole that dare hurt his partner.

He stood back up from where he fell and aimed, pulling the pin. The giant went down and didn't get back up. For several heartbeats Bakugo stood there with his second gauntlet out, ready to release another attack just in case. When it was clear that he wasn't getting back up, he ran and stumbled through the rubble until he reached _____. He fell to his knees and reached out to pick her up, but he stopped himself. He could hurt her more if he moved her.

Instead he reached out and touched her neck, trying to feel a pulse. It was faint but it was still there. He tried to gently feel around her body to see the extent of the damage. Her bones were in pieces and there was a nasty bump on the back of her head and... oh god there was so much blood. He tried to call out to her, tell her to wake up, but she wouldn't. He slumped his shoulders and turned his head to the sky before he let out a loud yell of pain, anguish, anger and fear.

What happened after was a bit of a blur to him. He didn't think she would make it to the hospital, but they had managed just in the nick of time. She was in a coma, but at least she was alive. Bakugo took another deep breath before he reached out and opened the door.

The room around her bed was covered with colorful flowers and cards and balloons. He knew that Deku, Angel Face, Engine Legs and Hot and Cold came around to visit some times. Once when he visited, he saw Weird Hair leaving some flowers for her. This basically confirmed that the entirety of the former 1A class at U.A. visited regularly. Normally, he would have gotten angry, but after the first few months of her coma, he was just tired.

He turned and looked at her. She was lying here, breathing through a tube and her eyes closed. If he didn't know any better, he would have assumed that she was sleeping. He stayed at the door and just... stared for a long while, until someone spoke behind him.

"Mr. Bakugo," came a male voice, speaking in a very gentle tone. "Are you ready?"

Bakugo sucked in a breath and didn't say anything. He nodded.

"Then sign here please," the doctor said and handed him a clipboard with a single piece of paper and a pen.

He took it and stared, the words moving and forming together. He knew what's it was though. It was the waiver to take her off life support. Without thinking he scribbled his name across the line before handing it back.

"Just... give me a damn second first, okay?" Bakugo said.

"Of course," the doctor said. "I'll be right outside when you're ready."

The doctor left the room and the door closed behind him. Bakugo hesitated a second before he forced his legs to move him over to the side of the bed. This was the closest he had gotten to her since he put her here. He couldn't bring himself to get near the bed, the most he did was bring flowers and set them on the table by the door.

Weird Hair asked him about it once, but how could Bakugo tell him exactly what was wrong? He couldn't talk about his weakness to someone. He was supposed to become the Number One hero! But how the fuck was he supposed to do that if he couldn't protect the one person that fucking mattered? When he told Weird Hair, he only got an understanding smile and a nod. That fucking idiot.

He took a deep breath and leaned over to the bed and placed a kiss on her forehead before he bowed his head and clenched his teeth. He closed his eyes tightly. Damn it, he wasn't crying.

"What the fuck are you doing," he muttered. "Just wake up damn it. I know you're probably pissed at me for letting this happen, but Jesus, what about everyone else who's going to miss you!?" His voice was thick with the tears that he wasn't clearing. "So just wake up already, you fucking idiot! Stop keeping everyone waiting! And let me spend the rest of my life making this up to you, damn it!"

He waited for several seconds, praying that something would happen, that she heard what he said and would wake up. When it didn't happen he kept out a haggard sigh and straightened up. He looked up towards the sky for several seconds and blinked several times before wiping at his eyes. After a couple deep breaths, he looked back down and started walking to the door. He was just about to open it when a sound froze him in his tracks.

"Ka... Katsuki?"

Great, now he was hearing things in his grief. He clenched his fists and looked down before he reached out to the floor.

"Katsuki," the voice was more certain this time, if not hoard, like it hasn't been used in a while. When he turned the handle, the voice spoke once more. "Katsuki Bakugo! Turn around damn it and answer me, would you?"

His heart stopped and he turned finally, seeing _____ looking at him, her eyebrows scrunched down in either an expression of pain or anger. His eyes widened and his heart jumped up to his throat.

"_____?" He breathed.

He walked in a zombie like way back towards the bed. He reached out and touched her cheek, not believing that she was really awake. She smiled slightly at him and leaned her head against his hand.

"Y-you're awake," he said.

"Obviously," she answered. "I hurt all over. My head... talking hurts, too."

"Then don't talk," he said and wrapped his arms around her. He buried his face in her hair so that she wouldn't see him cry.

"But I need to ask you something..."

"Fine, ask, and then stop fucking talking," he said his voice muffled.

"Did you call me a fucking idiot?"

He couldn't help it. He laughed. He tightened his arms around her and cried and laughed at what she said, just so relieved and happy that she was still here, still alive. Still his.
