He wasn't sure what to make of her at first. She had a fire quirk kind of like his fathers and he didn't want anything to do with it. Who could really blame him though? Anything that reminded him of that bastard that called himself his father was something he naturally tried to stay away from.
But she was in the same class as him and avoiding her completely was impossible. During combat lessons, there were a few times where _____ and Todoroki were paired up together to fight the other team. Other times he would have to watch her on the screens in the "green room" when they weren't paired up. Despite the fact that she had a fire quirk, he couldn't help to admit that the way she used it, how graceful she combined quirk usage with combat, was nearly mesmerizing.
It was like a dance of fire, like a dragon dance or something similar. And when they fought together... she was able to match his style and they were a pretty unstoppable team. He didn't want to admit it at first but after the Sports Festival, and things changed inside him, he found it easier to reflect on his feelings for _____.
After they all moved into the same dorm room he came to realize that it wasn't just the way that she moved with her quirk that made her graceful. It was as a whole in nearly everything she did.
"Take a picture, it'll last longer."
Todoroki blinked and jumped, turning around to see Uraraka, Iida and Midoriya walking up behind him. Uraraka grinned at him and he turned his face to the side, definitely not blushing.
"You know it's kind of obvious," she said and sat down on the edge of the couch. Midoriya took the seat next to him.
"Is it really?" Todoroki said.
"You keep staring at her, man," Midoriya said. "I don't know if she noticed, but a lot of everyone else has."
Todoroki sighed and ran a hand through his hair. He couldn't think of what to say to them.
"So are you going to tell her?" Midoriya asked.
"Ooooh! You totally should!" Uraraka added and clapped her hands together. "The two of you would be so cute together!"
Todoroki raised an eyebrow at his friends. "Do I have to?" he asked.
"If you don't she'll notice eventually," Midoriya said. "So you might as well just rip the bandages off."
"I don't know if I'm ready for that," he said.
"Sure you are!" Uraraka said.
"I agree," Iida finally chimed in. "You've come a long way since the Sports Festival."
Midoriya nodded a few times in agreement. "If you don't know how to, we can help you."
"Er..."
"Oh, my god," Uraraka said, her eyes shining. "I know the perfect way!"
Todoroki was silent for a moment and then sighed. He knew his friends wouldn't let up, so the only option for him was to give in. "Yeah, sure, I guess."
The next day, after their general lessons, Todoroki got suited up in his hero costume and met the rest of the class in the training arena. All Might was already there, getting ready to explain that days "activity." Todoroki barely listened as they were told that they would be going one on one combat with each other, hand to hand, no quirk use at all. All Might said that all heroes had to adept at not using their quirk while fighting all the time, just in case.
As they were going to draw lots, Todoroki thought about what he was going to say to _____ when he managed to gather the courage to confess to her. Uraraka said that it was best to just go right up to her and tell her, rip the bandage off and see what happens. Todoroki wasn't quite so sure he should do that, but seeing as Uraraka was a girl, he decided to trust her judgement.
Once he grabbed the ball with his letter on it and fell back into line, All Might showed them who got what letter and who would be fighting who. As luck would have it, Todoroki was paired with _____ for the sparring match. And they were the first up. Todoroki and _____ shared a glance before they walked into the center of the arena.
Once All Might called for the battle to start, the two of them leapt into action. Todoroki and _____ fought in a flurry of jabs, kicks and shoves, each going hit for hit with the other person. Todoroki tried to gain the upper hand but throwing punches that _____ wouldn't be able to track, but she was too good for that. She blocked them easily and then she spoke.
"You know, you're pretty good at this," she said between jabs, breathing hard.
"You're not so bad yourself," he replied. "Can I ask you something?"
"I don't see why not," she answered.
"Would you wanna..." he frowned slightly, trying to figure out the right words, "go on a date with me sometime?"
_____ froze for half a second, giving Todoroki enough time to duck and sweep her legs out from under her, causing her to fall down on her ass. All Might called the match and Todoroki held out a hand to help her back up. She glared at him slightly.
"Was that some kind of trick to get me to lose?" she asked, a hard tone to her voice.
Todoroki shook his head and a faint blush colored his cheeks pink. "No. I was being serious. If you would like to, that is."
_____ blushed as they walked back to sit with the other classmates while the next two were sent up for their match. "Oh um... yeah. I'd like that."
