They order some food and their next round of drinks.

"I steal my mom's Mills and Boon books and read them secretly. I think she knows about it but I just can't stop myself."

"What's Mills and Boon? And why is reading it shameful?"

"It's these thin romance novels. My mom has some from her mom from the 60s. And they're really sweet. The stories are of a simpler time, and for me, quite naïve. But it's really addictive."

"Why naïve?"

"Kasi puro rich boy meets simple, refined girl. Usually doctor and nurse. Or guardian and ward. Or businessman and secretary. What I find naïve is that there is always a happy ever after. They resolve whatever differences, or survive third parties. All the freaking time."

"But isn't that the point of romance novels? The dream of happy ever afters?"

"Yes. But it shouldn't be a happy ending 100 percent of the time, you know."

He looks at her quizzically.

"What happened to you? May big heartbreak ka ba?"

"Brief summary. Young sweethearts. Together eight years til college. His first day at work, he falls for his boss. Woe is me."

"Woah, eight years is a long time. No wonder you're jaded. "

"Yeah, it was harsh."

"So after him, did you see anybody else?"

"Just a series of first dates."

"Ever had a second date?"

"No."

"Will we have a second date?"

"I'm not sure yet."

"Sayang naman ang ating secret shame revelations kung walang second date."

"Why? You want to know more of my secrets?"

"Yes, I want to know all of them. "

"You're shameless."

"We can be shameless together."
