Chapter One: Marie

She turned her head away from the blinding sun rays of t L.A. sun. "Marie, can we go? It's hot out here!" Marie Sutton's sister, Reece, whined. "Shut the hell up, will ya?" Marie snapped. Reece frowned. Her sister was usually like this. Every time their grandparents made Marie mad, the brunette would always close off. Reece's therapist said Marie was just trying to block out the anger and distance herself. Reece looked at her sister, envying her beauty. Marie was a 5'5" brunette with deep brown eyes. She was slightly pale from living with their mother in Vancouver, Canada. Marie was 17 and, boy, was she a rebel. She did everything a teenager would do: drink, smoke, fool around. Reece knew about everything her sister did. That was the only thing that hadn't changed when they moved: their trust in each other. After years of having a mother who did nothing for their well being, they began to confide in each other. And even though Marie did give her the cold shoulder every other moment, Reece knew her sister cared. They had no choice but to care for one another. Reece can say one thing, though. Her sister was slightly out of control lately. She hung out with the wrong group, snuck in the house at ungodly hours, and got caught with every boy she brought home. Yet, she had the nerve to yell at her 14 year old sister for having a crush? Yeah, their relationship was screwed up in so many ways. But, that was family, right?

Marie stared her sister's dirty blonde hair. Reece looked a lot like their mother. With her pale blue and green eyes and fragile looking frame, she could pass for a younger version of Liana Sutton. Marie looked away. "Marie, we have to meet the new neighbors!" Reece reminded her. Marie cringed. She could hear that voice but much older telling her to watch that 'thing'. Marie grabbed her sister in a hug. "I love you, Re" Marie whispered. "I love you, too, Ray" Reece whispered. When they were babies, Reece couldn't pronounce 'Marie', so she said 'Ray'. Marie smiled. She jumped off the hood of her red Convertable Mustang. Reece followed her. "Let's go meet some neighbors!" Marie shouted as they drove off, blasting the radio. Reece laughed. Marie smiled. Even if they weren't where they wanted to be, they were with each other.
