Scott and Stiles walked up the stairs of Beacon Hills High School. Feeling fresh and clean. They were Juniors and they felt unstoppable.
There was one problem.
Their lockers were six lengths away from each other.
"This is such crap but we'll get through this. We have the same classes. Don't worry about it. See you in there." Scott breathed.
"Bye." Stiles said sadly as they split up. He perked up when he saw Jackson walk in with Danny. But summer was over. He wouldn't even speak to him in front of his friends.
"Hi, Stiles." Jackson said.
It took a minute to register.
"Did you just talk to me?" Stiles asked surprised.
"Yes...That a problem?" Jackson asked.
"No. I'm just surprised. You're this cool, Lacrosse playing senior and you're talking to me. Your brother's awkward, Star wars loving friend." Stiles sighed. "Are you__"
"Messing with you? No. I was just saying hi." Jackson said.
"Oh okay. Wanna walk me to English Lit?" Stiles asked.
"He can't. He's walking me to my AP Math class. Where the smart people go." Lydia said sarcastically. "Let's go Jackson." Lydia pulled him along. Leaving Stiles alone, fuming and late.Stiles struggled to keep his eyes open during History.
The teacher was nice and all but man was he bored.
Thankfully the lunch bell saved him.
"Who's bright idea was it to take History again?" Stiles asked as they walked to their respective lockers to drop off some books.
"Yours." Scott answered.
"Oh yeah. What the hell was I thinking?" Stiles asked himself. They walked to the cafeteria together. Talking about school and Star Wars that Scott had yet to watch.
After Scott and Stiles found a seat, they sat there staring at the tray of something.
"You think it's tuna?" Stiles asked poking the item.
"I'm pretty sure it's chicken." Scott said giving it wary looks. Jackson made himself comfortable.
"It's lizard. Here." Jackson handed the boys two bags.
"Real food!" Scott said happily. "Thanks, bro."
"You're welcome. Stiles. And you say...." Jackson waited.
"Thank you, Jackson."
Stiles said shyly.
"You're welcome."
Jackson said. Giving Stiles a special look that made
him blush.
"So why are you over here slumming it with the Juniors? Shouldn't you be with your lacrosse buddies?" Scott asked as he ate.
"Don't talk with your mouth full. And...Danny is the only one I hang out with because he's been my best friends since we were six. The rest of the team are brain dead, immature losers and I can't be alone with Greenberg without wanting to strangle him, so... Here I am."
Jackson explained.
"And why can't you hang with Danny? Not that I'm complaining." Stiles added.
"Danny's making moves on that weird goth girl, Cora.
So I'm giving him space." Jackson said. "So, Stiles..."
"What?" Stiles raised his head in surprise. "Me?"
"Unless you've been lying to me for the past nine years." Jackson said sarcastically.
"Sorry... What's up?"
Stiles asked.
"Not much. I was just wondering why you're single. I mean it's none of my business but you're so sweet and smart and funny...Pretty.
How hasn't someone snatched you up yet?" Jackson asked.
"I'm not really boyfriend material I guess." Stiles said.
"I find that hard to believe.
I'm single too. And I'm flawless." Jackson joked.
"Get over yourself."
Scott scoffed.
"Why is that though?
You're popular, clever...intimidating...
Why are you single?"
Stiles asked.
"You forgot handsome. As for your question, I'm just waiting for the right one.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure if they like me like that." Jackson said.
"They probably do. In any case, Lydia Martin likes you." Stiles said. Not trying to hide his bitterness.
"That doesn't mean I like her." Jackson winked at him.
"Maybe you should tell, Lydia that." Stiles blushed.
"Tell me what?" Lydia asked.
"You desperate whore! Leave!" Stiles yelled. Took him a few minutes to realize what he said. "That...Was supposed to be in my head...
If you'll excuse me. I'll be in the bathroom. Where I may or may not come out. Ever." Stiles stood up and took his leave. Scott went after him.
"Stiles...I know you're in here. What happened in the cafeteria?" Scott asked.
"Sorry. I just couldn't take it anymore! Every time Jackson and I are having a moment or he looks at me that desperate slut appears out of nowhere like a ninja to ruin me.
She's so annoying."
Stiles cried.
"Stop crying. You know it's my kryptonite. If it bothers you that much then just call him. Or see him over at my house where there's no Lydia." Scott suggested.
"Really?" Stiles sniffled.
"Sure. But I don't get why it upset you so bad. It's not like you like my brother." Scott said confidently. Stiles got of the stalls
"Heh. Right." Stiles said nervously. That was the end of that. Except it wasn't.
Stiles had just lied to his best friend. And himself.
