1967 was the Mustangs first remodel. It made the car a lot bigger and a lot longer. The scoops changed, the taillights, grille, interior, etc. The car was way different now. These were good changes too. It made the perfect clay to model a new sports car. This was not just a make over, no, the new style of the car provoked many other things. This was the first year for Shelby's GT500. The car that would be so famous it was put in many movies. Just look at "Gone in 60 Seconds" and "Bullitt." The Mustang was loved by everyone. It was sexy, fast, reliable. There were new power options, luxury options and comfort options. There were new colors like: Frost Turquoise, Beige Mist, Diamond Green, Lime Gold, Diamond Blue, Brittany Blue, Dusk Rose, Burnt Amber and Pebble Beige. It had more power options. You could get it with: 200 cui Thriftpower I6, 260 cui Windsor V8, 289 cui Windsor V8, 289 cui Windsor HiPo V8, 302 cui Windsor V8, 390 cui FE V8, 427 cui FE HiPo V8, and 428 cui Cobra Jet V8. The Mustang still wore the same 108 inch wheels as 1963. And it still had the same 3-4 speed manual and 3 speed automatic transmission options. It still came as a convertible, hardtop, or fastback. The body not only grew bigger but also changed detail in spots like the artificial side scoops and grille, and taillights. There were two artificial side scoops on the coupe and GT, the tailights went from convex to concave, and the car grew respectively larger. The Shelby GT500 was a beautiful masterpiece. It was available with a fire breathing 427 cui V8 engine.
The 1965-66 Mustangs were really just performance cars. With the new style came a new Shelby that was not just performance but also a bit of a luxury car.
