I sat in front of the red headed school counselor tapping my foot. The sound of her nails hitting the keyboard matching my rhythm. "I, uh, I think you had my brother." The tapping continues, her facial expression unchanging, I try again. "Like uh, I think you were his counselor while he was here. He told me to go to you if anything happens. Maybe I'm wrong." I keep rambling until she looks up, her eyes squinting as if that will help her recognize me. "Justin Montalvos little sister right?" She prompts me.

I nod vigorously hoping that it will spark a conversation to keep me out of class for awhile longer, my eyes darting back and forth between her face and the black analog clock blinking the time at me in red. A small "Hmph." escapes her "Well don't make the same mistakes your brother made. If your anything like him you could be very successful here at Richardson High School." The school bell trills telling us that it's now nine o'clock and I'm officially late for my first day of high school classes. She hands me a single sheet of light purple paper "This is your revised schedule. If there's anything else you need don't hesitate to come ask me or any of the other counselors for help." I nod again, this time with less enthusiasm. "Good luck Ms, uh..." her tone falters as she tries to figure out how to pronounce my name. "It's Xiomara."
"Right." She smiles politely and stands walking to the door and holding it open for me as if to say I had over stayed my welcome without saying anything at all. "Well good luck on your first day of High School Xiomara."
