I awkwardly pushed a piece of tomato around my plate, hoping that the further to the edge of the plate I pushed my dinner, the more it would look like I'd eaten. Matty Junior ate his food just fine, talking to his dad about his upcoming football game as he shoved chicken into his mouth. I could barely watch him.

"So Eli..."

I subconsciously rolled my eyes as I looked up at Matt, forcing a smile, waiting for him to carry on with whatever else he had to say.

"Are you and that Dean boy still close? The one from the group home."

Raising my eyebrow I placed down my fork, placing my hands together on top of the table as I tilted my head slightly, frowning. Instantly his face turned bright red as he flattened the napkin he had laid stupidly across his lap.

"It's just that, you two seemed very fond of each other. Almost... more than friends? Which would be totally okay of course! I was just wondering if perhaps you starving yourself was because you were fighting an inner battle, about whether it was okay or not. I mean it can't of been easy with your father."

Matty Junior's gaze met mine, his mouth half full of food as we both started sniggering, only making his dad turn more red.

"So," I started, leaning across the table. " You think I'm gay?" I questioned, trying my hardest to keep a straight face. Matt immediately started stumbling over his words, not knowing where to look or what to do with himself. It was hilarious to watch.

"N-no, of course I'm not assuming anything. I'm just saying that if you were... attracted to the uh, male kind. That it would be perfectly acceptable!" He exclaimed, the same nervous smile plastered across his face as he took a long, long sip of his water.

"Unless of course you plan on getting married, having a child then fucking his tutor, leaving your wife then running off  to eat vegetables and drink cold tea with your toy boy."

Instantly I recognised my mothers voice as she waltzed into the kitchen, her heels clacking against the tiles. Matt started coughing awkwardly as he stood up from the table, collecting everyone's plate and pausing when he got to mine seeing all of the food still on it. But still, he picked it up and carried them over to the counter as my mum poured herself an unhealthy amount of wine.

"I wouldn't exactly call that dinner, mum." I mumbled, picking at the place mat in front of me. She ignored my remark and took a big sip, turning to face me and Matty Junior at the table. "You're not exactly inspiring me to start eating when all your meals are liquid or in tobacco form. "

Her eyes narrowed as she crossed one of her legs over the other, leaning against the counter.

"Do as I say Eli, not as I do. "

Before I could make a snarky come back, Matt waltzed over with a chocolate cake and placed it down softly on the table. I stared at it for second, reading the writing written delicately on the top with icing:

'Eat Up Eli! Welcome Home!'

"Really, dad?" Matty Junior mumbled, tutting as he frowned at his father who seemed even more lost for words than he was before.

"How... appropriate." I commented, looking at Matt with an expressionless face.

"Oh get a sense of humour Eli, it's funny." My mum snapped, downing the rest of her wine before storming off upstairs where she'd pour herself another glass, and another and another.

"You know, if it had some dicks on it and some hot guys this cake would be perfect. You know seeing as I get my sexual preferences from my dad, must of been passed down."
