he always seemed so happy.

After the guys left, Jimin checked his phone and saw that it was 8:50 PM. Dang it. His mom could be home any minute. This is how it had always been. He could only invite his friends over to practice when his mom was working late and had to practice quietly when his mom was home, just in case she heard. He was tired of it.

Jimin decided that today would be the day. The day he tells his mom what he really wants to do with his life. Sing. He started to pace back and forth across his living room floor, trying to gather the courage to say the words he's always wanted to say.

He heard his mom's car pull up and waited patiently for her at the door. She walked in the door, shocked to see Jimin standing there.

"Jimin, what are you doing down here? Shouldn't you be studying?" His mom asked.

Here goes nothing.

"Hey mom, can you sit down for a second? I just wanted to talk to you about something."

"Sure, honey. Anything." Jimin's mom responded, as she made her way to the couch.

"Mom, I'm sorry. I've been lying to you for a long time now. Whenever someone asked me what I wanted to do in the future, I always said doctor, but in my heart, I secretly responded singer. Mom, I want to be a singer, not a doctor, but a singer."

Jimin looked at his mom for reassurance but found none. She just stared blankly at Jimin, sat up, and walked towards him.

"Mom? Mom?" Jimin asked anxiously.

She made her way in front of Jimin and slapped him across the face.

Jimin, shocked by his mother's action, touched his cheek and took a couple of steps back.

"Mom? Mom?" Jimin asked again, except this time with sadness and concern.

"How dare you, Jimin. I did not waste all of that money on tutoring classes and internships, just for you to be a singer. Don't think that I don't know about your secret practices. I've heard you in your room. You're not even that good." Jimin's mom explained, staring at Jimin.

You're not even that good.

Jimin couldn't begin to describe the hurt he felt and decided to leave. He grabbed his jacket, not taking one look back at his mom, and left for the only place that would bring him comfort. The playground.

He sat on the swings and moved back and forth, trying to gather his thoughts. It's okay that mom doesn't approve of my dream right? As long as it makes me happy, shouldn't I have the right to pursue it? But, I don't think that I could never speak to her again. Maybe I should just apologize. Would that make everything okay?

The sound of footsteps interrupted Jimin's thoughts, and he looked up to see a familiar face. Eunhee. However, just as he was about to say something, she turned around and started to walk away.

"Eunhee?" Jimin asked curiously.

"Yeah, it's me. What are you doing here, Jimin?" Eunhee responded.

Jimin thought of how to respond to that question. What was he doing here?

"Um, I just needed to get away from my mom for a little bit. What about you?"

"Me? I'm..."

Jimin could tell that she, too, was trying to find the simple words that would explain her complicated situation. He swore that he heard her mutter, "What the hell?"
