Chapter 23:
My mom?
Violet's words were salt to my already opened wounds. They stung and my head started to spin. I sat up in the guest bed and looked around the room, searching for a trace of Violet, but I found none.
I ripped the sheets off of my body and ran to Nathan's room. My fist pounded on the door desperately as I waited for Nathan to answer.
I heard someone quickly coming up the stairs, so I turned to reveal Chase and Gerard, running up the stairs.
"What's wrong, Sophia?" Gerard asked, running a hand through his hair.
The door behind me whipped open to reveal a very confused and concerned Nathan. He furrowed his eyebrows and took a step towards me. "What's wrong?"
I took in a shaky breath and walked into Nathan's arms, burying my head in the crook of his neck.
"It's my mom, Nathan. Violet told me that my mom's getting worse." I whispered, feeling shaken up.
"Wait, I thought you blocked out Violet out." Nathan replied, looking down at me.
"I did, but she managed to squeeze through when I wasn't focused. She confronted me about it and got pissed, so she told me that my mom is getting worse." I explained, my voice breaking at the end.
Nathan gently stroked my hair and sighed, probably looking at Gerard and Chase.
"Maybe you should give your parents a call in the morning and check in. It's late now, getting sleep will help all of us." Gerard suggested. I raised my head and nodded, wiping my eyes. "Okay."
"We'll be downstairs." Chase said, following Gerard down the steps, leaving Nathan and I alone.
"C'mon." Nathan whispered, tugging at my hand. He led me into the guest bedroom and helped me climb under the covers. He sat next to me and held my hand as I laid on the pillow.
"I don't want her to die, Nathan. I love her so much." I whispered, sniffing. He looked at me with sympathy and sadness, not knowing what to do.
"I know, Soph. All we can do is check in tomorrow." he responded, brushing some hair from my face. I looked up at him and smiled a little bit.
His messy brown hair fell perfectly across his forehead and shadows that were caused by the moonlight cascaded down his face, making his cheekbones more profound.
I sighed in content, feeling myself relax. "It seems like you're the only one who can make me happy now a days. Besides Chase and Gerard, that is." I said, tracing his forearm with my finger. He smiled and kissed my forehead. "Goodnight Sophia."
He started to pull away, but I put a hand on the back of his neck and looked into his eyes before I pulled him down for a kiss. His lips crashed onto mine, sending chills through my body. His tongue traced my lip, asking for entrance, which I quickly granted.
He shifted his weight so one hand rested above my head and another gripped my waist, not breaking the kiss. My left hand traced the outline of his body, slipping up his shirt to graze the surface of his stomach with my finger nails. I felt him shiver under my touch, making me smile a little.
He climbed onto the bed so he was hovering me, an elbow on each side. I broke the kiss to get air, but his lips only travelled to my neck, kissing along my jaw line. Everything about this felt so right; I didn't feel threatened or forced to do this, I wanted to and it was with my boyfriend.
I rolled us over so I was straddling his lap as I found his lips again. I could feel something hit against my inner thigh as Nathan's hands rested on my hips. I was so in the moment that I didn't realize that I was involuntarily rocking my hips gently.
