"Tell me more about this Jade," I said when Osiris came in with a sandwich and juice, lunch. I had worked myself into a bad mood while he was gone, but I was trying to hide and squash it.
"Why do you want to know more about her?"
"I don't know." I really didn't.
"Well, she knows about you now. Her little brother is Tim. He's her Incentive."
"She knows about me?"
"Mmm hmm." He absentmindedly shuffled his feet.
"How's Aunt Elisa?"
"She's holed up with- actually, she's holed up with Tim. We've got a lot of Incentives at the moment. She's decided she's going to protect Tim."
"Really?"
"Why would I lie?"
"Who knows?"
He glared at me, and I glared right back.
"You've got spunk," he said after a few minutes. "I'm not lying, I swear."
The bad mood came right back. "Prove it."
"How can I? They're already watching me because I talk to you and Jade so much. Trust me; I'm already in the lion's mouth. You're telling me to jump into its throat."
"Well, then you shouldn't have started talking to me in the first place."
"You want me to stop talking to you? That's easily managed."
"I don't care."
"I thought you'd like a friend in this place."
"I'm going to escape. I don't need a servant boy."
"Fine, little miss princess."
"Fine, Earring."
He walked away without another word.

Osiris practically threw in Jade's lunch.
"She made you angry. You fought."
He nodded.
"She has a good reason."
Another nod.
"Give her this message: I'm Jade. You know me. I know you. If you dig deep enough, you can find rocks."
He frowned. "You're officially going nutty like the rest, Jade. And I'm not going back to her cell."
"I'm not nutty. Just give her the message. You'll have to. Otherwise you'll be killed."
He rolled his eyes. Jade waved her hand. "No need staying. You've got kids to feed."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
She was crazy. What kind of message was that? I'm Jade. I know you. You know me. If you dig deep enough, you can find rocks. And sending it through Osiris, of all people. I guess it was the only way, but we only knew each other's names and whereabouts. I guess that could count as knowing, but really. And the last part. The last part.
