With every passing moment, I feel like the world is drifting away, more or less the people.
My mom doesn't know. And what if she does? What will she think of me? Will she shut me out or take me under her wing?
Ever since her boyfriend died in a plane crash when he was coming back from a business trip, my relationship with her has been very distant.
We're not a close as we used to be because she has shut herself out of our lives. She isn't herself, almost always in her room sulking or on her phone, saying she's texting friends.
My brother Trex is by far the best brother ever. At age 16, you would think that he would be a jerk and to teenage boy stuff, but he really is amazing.
He is basically the father in the house, driving me around, being overprotective, making meals, kissing me goodnight, everything a dad could do.
Our real dad moved out on us when I was 4 and my brother was 6.
But my brother has protected me and I could never repay him for that.
Trex almost dropped out of high school sophomore year, but mom didn't let him. She thought he was overreacting on the whole 'acting like dad thing' but I think that he was being a true dad in the house. Not like mom is anything.
I know Trex will be a great dad.
I am 2 years younger than him. But it really seems like more. He acts way older than 16! What can I say? After all he's went through!
"Liv! Come eat!" Trex calls from the kitchen.
"Okay be right there!" I holler back. Barely waking up from my nap. The sheets are tangled up around me, making it harder to get out of bed.
I lift my sleeve up and check me cuts, which have stopped bleeding but almost all the way through the paper.
I grab my lifeguard sweatshirt off the hook on the back of my door and head to the dining room, where my mom is seated, quietly waiting for her food.
"What are we eating?" I question as Trex does the final touches on the divine smelling dinner.
"You'll see. It's a surprise." He lifts an eyebrow as he brings the platters of covered food to the table.
"I'm afraid because sometimes it's either a poorly cooked grilled cheese or chicken wings that don't have enough sauce on them." He always comes up with clever meals but fails terribly.
"No no! I promise this time it will be good! Please trust me." He acts like he's praying and begging to me that I will like it.
"Ok I trust you... but not one hundred percent!" He gives me a deadly look as if saying that if I don't eat the food he will kill me.
"Ok open it!" He grabs the handle and counts down from 10. "10... 9... 8..." I glance at my mom who is almost as eager as I am, but still has the hurt puppy dog look on her face.
"3... 2... 1..." he lifts up the metal dome to reveal pizza. Freaking pizza.
"You got me all excited for this?" I hysterically point at the food. Almost mad at him for getting me hyped up.
"But I made it." He made it? From scratch, dough and sauce, or from papa Murphy's.
"Describe making it." I scoff looking at the pizza. It's so perfect. The crust is bubbly and golden brown. With a hint of burn on the edges. With cheese that looks like it would instantly dissolve in your mouth. The layer of marinara sauce separating the crust form the cheese.
"Alright. I went to the store. Bought exactly what the recipe told me to buy and brought it here! Then I made the dough, then I just put the sauce and cheese on and put it in the oven for like 20 minutes."
Wow. My brother just made pizza for what I know of the first time. It looks as amazing as store bought pizza!
"You're not kidding right?" I smell something fishy going on. There's got to be a catch.
"No I'm not Liv! Just try it for Gods sake!" The pizza is cut into perfect triangles. Clearly he took time doing this.
"Oh alright." I grab a warm piece from the pie and take a bite. The flavors are different than normal pizza but are still so delicious.
"Wow. This. Is. Good." I say in between bites. "But it tastes a little different."
"I figured you would've said that. It's vegan."
I almost choke. "Vegan pizza? What the heck were you thinking?"
"I... I don't know. I just wanted to try something healthier for a change." He innocently says.
"Healthier? where is my brother and what have you done with him? I've never heard you say the word healthy. Let alone make something that is vegan!"
"Calm down Jesus Liv. Not everything evolves around you. You liked it didn't you? Eat it if you like it. If you don't, I'm not making other food."
"Oh my god fine." I give up trying to argue about I don't even know what. Why would my brother choose something that's vegan? He's never ate a single thing healthy in his whole life.
"Mom you like it don't you?" She nods aggressively, earning a smile from Trex.
After dinner, I head to my room to slip into my cozy pajamas. In the cool weather of September, I look like an Eskimo preparing for the winter storm.
"You have school tomorrow get ready for bed." Trex yells as he bangs on my door.
"Alright alright! I'm putting my pajamas on calm down would you!" I roll my eyes and walk out of my bedroom to the bathroom.
Jesus. Sometimes he could be a handful. I mean yeah I have school tomorrow and I should go to bed early but that doesn't mean he needs to get all pissed off.
After brushing my teeth, I turned the light off and dragged myself to bed, knowing the long night ahead.
I knew my usual schedule of staying up almost all night, texting my boyfriend on Snapchat, and depending on my mood, I would send different things.
He's the perfect guy for me. Isaac. Isaac is his name. His sky blue eyes always seem to pierce through my soul, looking at all my darkest secrets. His hair was a dirty blonde and he wore it up in a quiff. He is so hot. I don't know how I got so lucky.
"Turn your phone off and go to bed babe." Trex opens my door and leans on the doorframe. His masculine build made him taller. Of course towering over me. His hair was disheveled from lying in his bed before coming in. "I know you like staying up all night Liv. But you need to start going to bed earlier.
"Alright Trex. I will." I've had enough of this social media stuff. But I couldn't bring myself to delete it, for so many dumb excuses.
"You can read for 20 minutes then your lights need to be off alright?" He raises an eyebrow and makes his way over to the bed. "I love you so much Liv. Okay? I want you to know that. I will always be here for you. No matter what."
That's what they all say, but they never stay.
Sorry it's all over the place!
Hope you like it!-Jamers
