Every passing minute my eyes slowly close. The bright light of my phone keeps me awake. My boyfriend and I were having a deep conversation about food. Of course it was food.
The seconds ticked by...12:30... 1:00... 2:00.
By the time I drifted off to sleep, it was 2:30 in the morning.

Beep beep! Beep beep! Beep beep!
The sound of my alarm clock only made me not want to get up even more. The Monday morning was dreadful like all the other mornings I had to get up at five o'clock in the morning. The draft of the air conditioning coming from the darkened living room made me huddle up in my fluffy blanket. The warm fabric cradling my chilled skin."Time to get out of bed Liv! Today's a big day! your presentation for Spanish!" Trex calls from behind my door.
"Ok I'm getting up just calm down." I groaned back, sitting on my bed and rubbing my exhausted eyes. "Is there any breakfast here or do I need to eat at school?"
"Um, I think there's a banana here or something look yourself. Oh! and Jenessa is coming over tonight you want to help with dinner?" he asks.
"Sure! I'll see how much homework I have when I get home." I respond in my best happy tone.
"Ok. We have 20 minutes to get ready please don't make us late for jazz today." he says. My brother and I are both in band, he plays the saxophone and I play the French horn. But for jazz band, I play trumpet. Last school year I had to try out to get into Jazz 1; the really good jazz band of the two. And I made it! I'm the only freshman in jazz 1 so it's a little scary but hey, they'll be impressed that I'm there. I started playing the French horn in eighth grade about halfway through the year and I've been playing flute for four years. This year is going to be my best year yet music wise. I haven't been this much into music ever in my life.
Band camp was a whole other story. A two week long camp from nine o'clock in the morning to eight o'clock at night. We learned how to march in two weeks and learned as much music as we could for this years show. I think I'm starting to already have a best friend. Sophie, the girl with curly hair. My section, mellophones, i have started loving them more and more and I couldn't ask for a better section. Trumpets, on the other hand, are your typical trumpets. The people with big egos that will not stop talking. There's one in particular that I started noticing about a week into camp. I don't know quite what his name is. Some people call him Monty and others call him Esteban. His style is like no other I've seen. It's hipstery and thrifty and I'm in love with it. What's weird is he dresses kind of nice even at practice. His smile would shock me in ways I didn't know. He would make a kind of stupid face and almost stare at me. Could this boy be doing something to me?
"Hey are you ready? We need to leave in two minutes if we want to get there at seven." Trex called as I looked down at my outfit. I didn't know how to dress on the first day.
All from the thrift shop downtown. "Um... is that skirt a little too short for you?" Trex eyes my outfit.
"Okay. No! It's not! Oh my god people don't even know who we are, I mean we moved at the end of the school year last year! I'm probably going to end up being the weird band girl, like its been for the past four years." I cover my head with my hands, staring down at the tile floor.
"I won't say anything, just know I am your older brother and I'm trying to look out for you, you know." he caresses my cheek and then turns away, grabbing his backpack and instrument.
The morning breeze gives me goosebumps down my legs, making me shiver. "Put on your jacket it's cold out here!" Trex exclaims as he pulls his Oregon hoodie over his disheveled hair. "What is that?" he points to my arm, seeing the white bandage and the faded blood.
