Chapter 3

It’s been a full twenty-four hours since I arrived at my ‘new home’. I’ve never spent a day without my family in my whole life. Let’s just say, I was a bubble-wrapped child. I wasn’t even let out of the house without adult supervision, till I was fourteen years old. Even then, I was only allowed out for around three hours and I had to text my mother every half hour updates on the ‘three safety questions’: where am I? Who am I with? Am I ok? So, yeah, the phrase bubble-wrapped child fitted me rather well, If I do say so myself.

My first night was spent getting to know the girls better. I was never allowed to have / go to sleepovers, so this was like my first sleepover in the whole of my seventeen years of existence.  I had such a great time; I really opened myself up and shared stories about my life to the girls. They would listen eagerly and respond with quirky tales of their own. Lilly was even able to smuggle some treats such as chocolate and Gummy Bears, didn’t take long for us long though to go through her stash.

We would share stories, random things about ourselves and the odd jokes till we all fell asleep. It turns out Lilly is a scholar with the best grades imaginable. She’s got 100% on every test she’s taken since she was seven. I’ve always heard of the ‘amazingly beautiful genius girl’ but i never thought i would be lucky enough to see her in the flesh.

The rumours weren’t wrong either. Her silky black hair floated down to her shoulders like silk. Her skin looked smooth and youthful. A sweet blush glowed gently on her cheeks, highlighting her plump cherry red lips. I found out through using my amazingly-ninjaristic observational skills that she uses minimal make-up. Her long, thick, black lashes rose above her tempting blue eyes and halfway up to her neatly shaped eyebrows. She was the definition of beautiful.

I’m just a plain Jane. Nothing special about my looks, I take care of myself but I’m nowhere near in her league. She takes natural beauty to a whole new level. I just barely make the cut for average, especially without make-up. Not only is she stunning but she’s also won championships in ballroom and Spanish dancing. Her farther invented and designed unique software, which is specialised to high up business work. Let’s just say from this she’s been blesses with a well privileged life.

From talking last night I and Lilly bonded over our mutual interests. I love to dance; I’ve never won an award but it’s still a great hobby both of us share. She’s also really sweet, never had a bad word to say about anyone... so far.

Lucy was just as lovely. Full of smiles and laughter. She never let us goes longer than ten minutes without smiling or bursting into giggle fits. I guess its part of her out-going and caring nature. She’s completed all ‘Dukes of Edinburgh’ awards, travelled all over the globe carrying out charity events whenever she can. Her mother provides the initial funding for this, as she’s a famous designer and composer. Her recent work consists of a new perfume. Apparently it’s a best seller, boosting the company’s profit margin above what they could ever dream of.

The girls snap me away from my thoughts.

“April! How much longer are you going to take in there?” Lilly shouted.

“Come on girl; get your butt in gear. I will not be late for our first day of classes!” and that must be lucy.

Wait what? Aww crap, I jerk causing me to fumble, knocking over countless hair care products. As a heavy, condensed, metal bottle falls, crushing my big toe. I let out a pain filled yelp in surprise. Through the sudden shock my body begins to curl towards the pain. I blame instincts as my head flies down and smashes against the marble sink.

I hope that doesn’t leave a mark.

I pout at my reflection. Yep, a big red patch starts to form in the centre of my forehead. I choose to just ignore it and prey it doesn’t turn into bruise.

I’ve already done my hair, make-up and uniform. It suited me quite well. The trim was fitting and tastefully shaped my body. My mother always used to say i was suited to darker colours, to show off my eyes and hair but I think I’m pulling the white and gold look off. I stepped out the bathroom feeling rather confident.

The two girls are huddled together outside the door.

“What was that noise?.. OH my god, are you ok?”

About two seconds after i explain the situation, the two girls are on the floor practically crying with laughter.

“It wasn’t funy! It really hurt.” I said while rubbing my forehead.

Lucy started clutching her stomach.

“i ca-n’t be. Leave. Tha-t hap. End.” She said through gasps of giggles.

After the most extremely dull assembly of my life, no exaggeration, trust me, it dragged. We managed to get our eager hands on our time tables. Lilly was in an extremely advanced class for the gifted and talented, but lucky enough Lucy was in most of my classes. We matched up our time tables almost perfectly but unfortunately it looked like we will have Art and French at different times.

Our first lesson of the day was religious studies. Even though it was the first day and we all wanted to make a good first impression, Lucy seemed to bring out the mischievous side of me. After we finished our work Lucy decided we should play a game, to try and make time fly past quicker. We just naturally started with, what began with an innocent game of dares, cute little stuff like knocking each other’s sealed water bottles on the floor but it escalated into an all out war of chicken.

By the time of just before fifth period, we were doing a rendition of the “gangdam style” dance down one of the posh hallways. Not my proudest moment, but I’m not going to lose! I can be stubborn when I need to be.

Looking smug it was my turn to choose a dare for Lucy. As we were standing outside our classroom, waiting for our teacher to unlock the room, a silly school girl dare started to form.

I leaned over and whispered in Lucy’s ear, while pointing in the direction  of the subject.

“I dare you, to go over to that tall guy with black hair, and sing the chorus of ‘call me maybe’”

a devilish grin spread across her face.

“Challenged accepted.”

For extra dramatics she strutted over to the guy. They seemed to be chatting away quietly. Until.

“Hey, I just met you,

And this crazy,

But here’s my number,

So call me maybe?”

She actually handed him her number. And he took it! She bounced back over to me with a grin. My mouth hung wide open with disbelief. The confidence this girl displays

With a quick swish of her hand she pushed my jaw up, closing my moth with a popping sound.

Just shortly after, our teacher rushed passed us unlocking the room. We all soon filtered in afterwards.

We all took our seats then the ginger bombshell leaned over to me and whispered.

“I dare you to lick the elbow, of the guy you are sitting next to.”
