Shane's POV
I never thought of Hailey Crawford much more than one of the girls I grew up with. The girl who's always been my classmate since I started going to school. The quiet, voluminous haired skinny girl who always look the same. She always wore braces, teacher's favorite student and always made her home works even for Health class. She's always with the same people - the one we grew up with – I can't think of anyone who does not know her because she's the kindest I've ever met, she always helps when she's able, but can be really timid.
She's the one girl I could never hate because she always got me through Math Class. She would put her test or quiz paper on the edge of the desk so I could copy all the formulas, pis, polygons or simply just her answers.
The girl I knew kind of had a crush on me ever since, because I regularly catch her watching me whenever she would see me. She's also always present on my hockey games and never forget to include me on her holiday card list that was always sealed with stickers with different scents, even though we never shared a conversation much longer than "hey" and "what's up?"
That one girl who had her bestfriend call me to ask if I'd go to Valentine's Ball and listened on the other line and hear what I would say. Like it was sophomore year all over again and she's too afraid to call me herself.
That girl, the one whose bestfriend, I end up dating.
And it was just earlier that something happened between us. I would be lying if I will say that it wasn't great because really it was so damn good. When I came to know that I was the first man in her life, my heart swelled from the proud feeling it felt. When I kissed her, I realized that she doesn't have those braces anymore. And when I touched her body, it also didn't look skinny just like before, she has the perfect curves and I really think that she's sexy. Her hair also changed, it turned into a soft cinnamon toast. I realized that she's totally cute, just like the girl next door down to Earth.
And I'm still dating her bestfriend.
Though I never admitted it before, I kind of liked that she went to all of my hockey games. Because win or lose, she was the one person I can count on to be there no matter what. Even more than my best friend.
And even more than my girlfriend.
Once or twice I've wanted to tell her that, but it never seemed to be the right time. So maybe, I'll tell her today. It just had been what? Five hours since I last saw her. And to tell you the truth, after what happened between us, I can't seem to get her off my mind. And every time I think of our unspoken secret, I couldn't help my mouth from stretching from ear to ear.
My work is done and I'm going to head straight to Hailey, the thought of her yet again put a smile on my face. Just as I went out of Mr. Kingsbury's house, Aubrey-a friend of Olivia from school-took my attention. Hailey is there at her side, looking so cute.
"Could you help me and Hailey put these bags inside the house?" Aubrey asked.
I nodded and looked at Hailey to smile at her, but to my disappointment she looked away immediately. I don't know why, did I do something wrong? I can't help but feel sad about it.
"Hey, Hailes, go open your front door so we can take these things in already." Aubrey said to Hailey while weighing the bags. Probably deciding which weighs the lightest. When she noticed that Hailey made no move, she looked at her and I looked at her, too. She is staring out of thin air, like her soul is somewhere out there.
