Chapter 2 - Confusion Erupts

It had been a day since Ivy's party and the conversation that Layla and Ethan had, nothing significant had happened expect the love notes from Dean to Charlotte had increased not that Layla cared much about it but she couldn't help but be a part of it cause it had to do with her best friend, she knew that Dean's unconfessed love for CJ was the least of her problems. The day after the party her parents actually spoke to her about making her beyond irritated, they told her that if she did not meet Ethan's demands they would lose lots of money and they could even afford divorce right now, Layla hadn't even told CJ about any of this craziness talk less of Dylan.

Right now they were in the cafeteria having lunch but Layla was barely listening to their conversation so focused on starring at Ethan's table wondering what she was going to do. Ethan eyes meet her gaze making her immediately look away, just then a male freshman approached their table, "Are you Charlotte Jarvis?" he asked Layla, she nonchalantly pointed to the actual CJ while stabbing her chicken pasta with the plastic fork. Layla turned her gaze to Dylan who was lost scrolling through his phone then Alexis who was watching intently as the boy handed CJ a little box with a balloon attached. She collected it and opened it but Layla was quick to cut in. "Really you're going to open it here?" She sarcastically asked, "Yeah why not?" "The whole school is watching" she gestured to the whole cafeteria that was staring at their table some of them with their phone out ready to text their friends CJ's next move. "I don't really care" her best friend shrugged as she continue to open it.

Inside the box was a Tiffany and co. diamond bracelet and Layla couldn't help but laugh at the priceless look on CJ's face. "Really, a Tiffany and co. bracelet? Like how much does this thing even cost? Five hundred dollars? My little sisters boyfriend got this for her on valentine's day" she announced making Layla laugh even harder. "Hey you throw this in the trash for me" CJ ordered a random student.

"How old is the guy,13?" CJ questioned seeming annoyed.

They moved out of the cafeteria with almost all eyes on them and Layla attempted grab a textbook out of her locker so she could make her way to her Religious history class but her plans were altered when Dean approached her.

"Hey Layla can we talk?"

"Sure what ab-" she began but wad rudely cut off by Dylan who came up behind Layla his hand on her waist as a sign of marking his territory making her roll her eyes.

"Why?"

"There are just a few things I'd like to discuss with her alone don't worry I'm not trying to steal your girlfriend" Dean stated making Layla inwardly facepalm.

"Even if you tried you woul-"

"Ok ok that's enough, Dylan it's ok- I'll see you later" she said before kissing his cheek.

"It's my take that you haven't told him what happened a few days ago"

"Of course I haven't, you really think it's that easy" she asked.

"You need to stop"

"Stop what?"

"Don't act so oblivious, stop with the gifts and sweet gestures it's getting way too much"

"I'm not doing anything, is this about that bracelet" he asked, her only reply was nod "You really think I'm that shallow, Layla believe me it wasn't me, it's not me" he scoffed in disbelief but she wasn't at fault, fine she trusted him to an extent but not as much as she used to, not after what he had helped Ethan do.

"It's fine, what did you want to talk about?" She brushed him off. "I actually wanted to ask you if you knew who was sending her all the stuff"

"So you don't care about Charlotte?"
