Act II:

Scene 1:

[Wellington Home, Dining Room]

[Dawn, Friday]

[The Wellington family is at their table, praying before breakfast]

Captain Wellington: Dear Lord, we thank you for this food that we may partake of and the peace that you may give Dubai,

[Harry seems nervous]

Forgive us of our transgressions and wrongdoings. In the name of The Son, The Father, and the Holy Spirit

[Family together]

Amen!

[Breakfast starts]

Captain Wellington: So, what will you boys be up to today?

Harry: I’ll be sweeping the sand off of the driveway

Captain Wellington: That’s right you will! Cause another fight and you’ll sweep the sand off of all of Dubai!

Harry: That’s everything! Dubai is only sand! I’d love to sweep Dubai away! Haha!

Captain Wellington: Enough! These people are children of God just as well as us- I won’t have that kind of talk in my house.

[To Ryan]

What will you do today, son? Wander off to parties with Frenchmen?

Ryan: That was Harry’s idea!

Harry: But you’re the one who benefitted! I saw you dance with the Al Ketbi girl!

[Stands and mimics Gala]

“O, where have you been all of my life, you perfect stranger!”

Ryan: [Stands]

Stop it!

Captain Wellington: [angrily]

Silence!

[Everyone is scared]

I must go to the docks now! I don’t want to hear of any of your stupidity today, boys. Is that clear?

[Boys answer, “Yes Sir!”]

[End Scene]

Scene 2:

[Meanwhile, at the Al Ketbi House, Gala’s Chamber]

[Arabic]

Housemaid: Wake up, girl!

[Gala gets up]

Gala: Good morning

Housemaid: I only had to wake you up once? I’m impressed.

Gala: O who was that boy last night? The perfect stranger?

Housemaid: He was the one who may be your husband soon!

Gala: [shocked]

What?! No way!

[Hugs the housemaid]

He was so handsome!

Housemaid: Rich!

Gala: Intelligent!

Housemaid: Tall!

Gala: European!

Housemaid: French!

Gala: Hah! He’s not French!

Housemaid: I’d bet a year’s pay that he’s French.
