The Day It Changed

It was a hectic morning with everyone running around and setting up for my party. I didn't want to be in the way so I stayed in my room the whole morning.

I didn't think my 16th birthday was a big deal but apparently it was to my mother and father.
I know 16 is a big deal in most cultures but why my mother was making an even bigger deal about it, that part I don't know what was going on.

12:30 came and the first thing I did was put my dress on. It was so beautiful and it was the perfect fit for me.
"I didn't expect this to happen" I said looking down at my feet. "What is it love?" my mother asked in a quite voice.
"My feet, they black!"
"Oh No, not now."
"What not now."
"Um honey don't get a fright but you are changing into your pure form."
"My what??!!"
"Your pure form, it's when a young girl of your kind changes into their purest of forms."
"A girl of MY KIND what the hell is that suppose to mean?"
"Well you see you not really from this world, you see...."
"How can you say that? How can I not be from this world?"
"It's just that... Well you not..."
"Spit it out!!!"
"We not your parents...."
"What? How can you not be my parents? Who are you then if you not my parents?"
"Sweetie, we are your birth parents friends. You see when you were just born, your parents came to planet earth because your home planet was destroyed."
"But..... then where are my parents?"
"Well as soon at your ship landed in the mountains the government started searching for you and your parents, so your parents came to our house and we didn't have the heart to turn them in so we helped them build a nice home and get jobs and we showed them how to act around other people. But after 3 years of searching the government found them but before they toke them away your mother asked me to take care of you and so I did."
"Did they experiment on them?"
"I don't know, we were to busy protecting you we didn't worry about them."
"So I must just be okay with all of this?"
"Well no, I mean it is a lot to take in but I did try my best to raise you and keep all of this a secret from everyone and I'm sorry if you feel like you have been abandoned, here."
"What's this?"
"A picture of your parents when they first arrived."
With my eyes full of tears I hugged my adopted mother so tight I felt like I couldn't let go.
"Thank you, Mom. But how am I supposed to hide my feet now?"
"That's easy just think human and also put this on."
Handing me a white tube of cream she smiled and left my room.
