"Is it your first time coming here?"
"Yeah, I don't usually go out much, especially to places like.... well....places like..."
"A gay bar?"
"Yeah, places like a gay bar." Sabrina chuckled, a slight tint of pink beginning to appear on her light caramel cheeks.
This was the first time she'd gone out for a 'girls night' since breaking it off with Sean.
Oh Sean. A handsome businessman with a kind smile, lots of money and a hideous temper. A temper that often broke.
So after 2 years of vacations and fights, late night movies and bruises, Sabrina is finally a free woman. Or as her friends would say, 'single and ready to mingle.'
"You're cute when you're embarrassed," the brunette woman says to her.
Sabrina had never seen this person in her life, yet the woman had just walked up to her and began a conversation. It's probably quite common for people to do that here in Seattle, but in Red Rock, NM it's unheard of.
Sabrina has moved to Seattle 3 months ago. She wanted to believe that it was because she wanted to branch out from her bland life in her hometown, but in her heart she knew she really just wanted to get away from the memories.
"Would you like another drink?" The brunette asks, a dazzling smile brightening her face.
Sabrina's immediate instinct was to reject the offer, for drunkenness had led her to some scary situations in the past. But this woman, she seemed....different in some way.
"A small drink wouldn't hurt, right?" She says, a half smile finding its way to her lips.
"That's my kind of girl right there!" The brunette says with an unsteady speech.
Sabrina begins to question how many drinks the woman has actually had as she grabs her hand and begins hauling her through the crowd.
The music gets increasingly louder as Sabrina gets dragged closer to its source. She trips over one of the cords connected to the enormous speakers that are pumping out the electronic dance music. Her left heel snaps, breaking free from the sole of the shoe but not completely coming off, causing her to trip once again this time sending her sprawling onto the dirt covered floor.
"Why're you on the floor? Get up, we're going to where the real party's at," the brunette slurs as she beings schlepping Sabrina around once more.
She began feeling like something was amiss. She wanted to know where she was being taken.
"Excuse me miss," Sabrina tried, but the music was too obnoxiously loud and the woman kept drawing her towards the secret location.
By this point, there was a definite rock of worry in Sabrina's stomach. Her eyes began scanning the room, looking to see if anyone noticed her slipping into the shadows. Her eyes met no others and the feeling in her gut sank lower. Anything could happen to her at this point and no one would likely know.
Strangely, while she was on the edge of panic, Sabrina's mind found itself tugging on a memory of Sean.
It brought her back to about a year ago when the abuse had just began. She was looking in the mirror at herself, lifting up a corner of her shirt to reveal a deep purple contusion. A tear flooded her eye for a moment before she heard footsteps approaching the bedroom door. She quickly dropped her shirt back into place and wiped the tear from her eye before he opened the white, wooden door.
