"Daaamnn girl you got it good." she whistled, looking around.
I sat on my bed, ignoring her comment, eager for detail, "spill."
"What?" she laughed, confused and cocking her head to the side making her corn braids fall to her one shoulder.
"You. Grady. Spill."
She immediately blushed, "I... don't know what you talking about."
"I don't believe it for a second. Please, tell me!"
"Fine fine. Well, I didn't expect this to happen, but ya know how he dropped me at his house before he took you home? Well, he let me stay there last night."
"Oh my gosh! You must really like him."
"I... I do!" she squealed. I had never seen her act like this before- like a normal girl who hasn't had continuous trips to prison.
"That's awesome Mack! He is really cute."
"Hey, don't you think about stealing my man!" She laughs, still looking around my room.

That night we spent hanging out, and laughing with each other. It was really nice to see Grady and Mack. They would make a perfect couple, I could just tell. Those next two days I spent hanging around the house, preparing for Johns hearing. I was nervous, but I was sure he was going to get what he deserved. After all, my father was a police officer! I was also getting more excited for my adoption day (which was the same day as Johns hearing). I spent most of those two days finding myself dozing off, just thinking about the possibilities of what might happen when we get to court. I could myself sweat at each thought. It seemed that Steve and December had noticed me in this daze, so December and I decided to go shopping. She helped me pick out what to wear, we were all going to look as good as possible.
"Knock knock. You ready?" Steve asked, opening my door while doing his tie.
"Yep. I'm a little nervous." I lied to him. I wasn't a little nervous, I was fully nervous. I straightened my baby blue dress that December had picked for me, and grabbed my phone.
"For which part?" he asked, looking at me sympathetically.
"All of it." I laughed, smiling at him.
We got into the car a few minutes later, ready to kick some butt. Today is when I officially said goodbye to my old life and got a new family.
"I am so excited for you, Aria!" December looked back from her seat up front. I noticed that she and Steve had been holding hands for the whole ride.

The court case went by in a blur. I had to stand on the bench, and say everything that I had witnessed. Thankfully the judge agreed that John had to be put away. He is going to prison for 8 years.
We then went to the adoption area and filled out the paperwork. We even got a picture with the judge that made it all happen. I smiled as big as possible, wanting it to be seen that I was as happy as I had ever been.
I had a feeling that things were going to take a turn. Sure, I had been through bad things in my life- but I had a feeling that things were just going to get better.
I looked up at Steve and smiled at him. I was his daughter.
