Little Talks

Ryuu had gotten past the greatest obstacle between himself and Wren, Lyra. He couldn't help but smile, he had been watching the two of them since they had gotten to the academy and hadn't been able to approach Wren without the blonde glaring daggers in his direction. It wasn't as though he was a stalker or had any ulterior motives in getting close to Wren, but he was drawn to her. It was inexplicable. The first time he had seen her was during the entrance ceremony where all of the first years had been gathered. There were a total of thirty two new students so there was a lot of talking and gossiping going on, but the one thing every conversation had in common was the name of the mysterious Wren Argent. Ryuu couldn't help but sneer at the petty and insignificant conversations and had tried to tune them out, but he could still hear snippets of information. Apparently the girl was supposed to be important due to her family practically ruling the country, but that didn't mean she did. They were all trying to figure out how they'd get her to be their "friend" when the door to the entrance hall was quietly opened, unsurprisingly he was the only one to notice. That's when he saw her. The world didn't stop spinning, time continued as it always had, and his breathing never faltered. Nothing had physically changed, but his world's axis had shifted upon seeing this girl.

The girl was obviously trying to remain unnoticed by ducking her head, but Ryuu didn't know how she planned to do that when her hair practically glowed. The only way he could describe it was to compare it to woven moonlight, which made him scowl since he had never been known to spout lines like that. He was towards the back of their class so she ended up sneaking her way in and was a mere three feet away. His heart had remained steady, but his hands had betrayed him and had started to sweat which he quickly rubbed against his jeans and clenched into fists. Ryuu glanced in her direction meaning for it to be just that, a glance. His body once again betrayed him for he couldn't look away from the girls mesmerizing eyes were looking at him as well. She didn't even reach his shoulder in height, so she was actually staring up at him so that the light caught the rich purple of her gaze. Something about her expression made Ryuu want to reach out and comfort her, and he almost did when the first of their classmates turned to see her. The annoying girl practically screamed, "She's here!" He wanted to ask her what she was talking about, but the girl who had captured his attention sighed as if she were about to go into battle. The other first years were clamoring for the attention of the all mighty Argent, but all Ryuu could think of was the way her eyes had dimmed when she was noticed.

The sound of her sigh stuck with him until he had met her again on the roof.

Ryuu had always considered himself to be a calm and confident person, he didn't get scared easily and handled most situations with ease. The morning he had did not reflect his usual demeanor in the slightest. When he had calmed himself after tackling Wren he had shifted back into his element, but when he had spluttered and prattled on like an idiot he had wanted to string himself up by his wings. Ryuu groaned and buried his face in his arms on top of his desk. She probably thinks I am an idiot now, what if breakfast meant nothing to her? Was I overly confident? Did I sound like an ass? Why was I able to act normally on the roof, and lose it out there?

Ryuu was brought out of his spiraling thoughts when he felt a reassuring hand between his shoulders. He looked up to see the blinding smile of his best friend, Jaxith. Jax was one of those people you couldn't help but like. He was kind, intelligent, funny, and genuinely cared about the people around him. Ryuu couldn't help but smile when Jax was around, and all of the first years congregated around him as if he was the light of their year.

"What's wrong, R? Did you eat too many pancakes? Find out you couldn't join the Winx Club? Did you have to reject another poor girl?" Ryuu huffed knowing he wouldn't be able to throw Jax off with some lame excuse as to what was upsetting him. His friend was always trying to help others and somehow brought happiness into any conversation he joined. Class wasn't going to start for another ten minutes unfortunately, usually he would be overjoyed at the prospect of their history lesson being put off, but telling Jax how messed up one girl had him was not something he was going to enjoy.
