Aurora Wallace was always one to find comfort in the rain. Be it a heavy thunderstorm or a soft patter in a brisk Autumn's day, she always felt as though the rain could wash away the worries in her mind.

Perhaps it was the weather that put her in a good mood on that Saturday morning. Only in Forks, she thought, could there be so many clouds in the sky when it's just the beginning of August. Since moving to town two weeks earlier, between helping her mother unpack boxes and decorate the new house and preparing for school the following week, she hadn't had time to go out and explore the surrounding forest. A pity, in her opinion. Aurora had always been in touch with nature more than anything else; that's why she invited her next-door neighbour Isla to go hiking with her.

After putting on a purple long-sleeved shirt, her black jeans and Converse she slung her bag over her shoulder and jogged to Isla's house, eager to begin the day.

"Right on time today." Aurora commented as her friend walked over to her, yawning.

"Oh hush, so what I'm always a bit late? It's a part of who I am Aurora, and I can't change who I was born to be you know."

"You're right, I have to accept the fact that you were born to be a lazy rocker chic who spends too much time on her hair."

"See now that's the spirit!" The two girls continued their playful bickering as they started to walk out of the neighbourhood and into the forest.

The rain was barely noticeable to the girls, only evident on the leaves which now became entirely covered with tiny droplets. As Aurora looked above her, she marvelled at the sight of the leafy dome of the forest which created an alluring ambience of aqua and green. Isla could tell that her new friend was too absorbed in the natural scene around her to take part in any heavy conversation, so she let her be and for a while the only sounds came from their stepping on the crinkly floor and the creaking branches.

"The forest is so beautiful here. My old town in Canada was pretty far away from the woods so I rarely got to spend time in it."

"So what was Canada like, anyways?" Isla questioned, curious about her friend's life before coming to Forks.

"Not too bad actually. I lived in a bigger town than Forks so there was a bit more to do on the weekends."

"Why did you and your mum come to Forks?"

"Um, no particular reason. Family matters."

"What does that mean?"

Aurora could feel herself tensing up. "Well, let's just say we needed to come to Forks because it's more fitting for our lifestyle." She decided to change the subject before Isla could respond,

"My old high school was pretty big actually so it was easy to make friends. Lots of cute guys there actually." She sighed dramatically.

Isla chuckled, "Well sorry to break it to ya but it wont be that easy to make friends in Forks High. Even though they combined the school in La Push with ours and brought all their kids here, we're still just a few hundred people."

"That's okay, I'm sure my extra friendly neighbour will be kind enough to introduce me to everyone to make it easier on me." Aurora teased, smirking at her friend which replied with a shake of her head.

A few hours into the hike, the girls came across a river surrounded by small rocky hills and endless trees. They decided to sit down and Aurora took out her camera to take a few photos- photography had always been a passion of hers. Soon enough Isla was taking pictures too.
