As soon as I entered the hallway after visiting the office I could feel everyone staring at me. Though the way they stared wasn't like those stares at the orphanage this time instead of hate they were full of curiosity. I ignored them and made my way towards the first class on the timetable. On the way I felt outwards with my mind looking for the group of wolves that resided in the school. I felt it and silently entered the bubble as quietly as I could. Unfortunately someone had felt my presence.

"Guys I think someone else is here?" his voice came clearly inside my head. It was deep and husky and for some reason I loved the way he talked.
"What? I didn't feel anything," someone replied.
"You're just over reacting Jayce, because the new girls here," a girl replied. "Did you guys know she doesn't have any scent at all?" she continued. Wait, she tried to smell me? I felt the others peak with interest at what she said.
"Invite her to sit with us and we'll have a look," the person called Jayce said. I cut off the conversation not willing to listen further. I finally found the class I was looking for and sat down in a seat up the front. I put my bag on the desk and relaxed into my chair waiting for the class to start. So the werewolves were going to examine me at lunch. I watched as a group of wolves walked in and a human made a wide move around them. I noticed how they glared at the girl as she pretty much ran past them. She had bright bushy brownie hair and glasses that covered her large doe eyes. She glanced at me and stopped in her tracks. I smiled at her and she quickly averted her eyes. I stood up in front of her before she could walk past me. Slowly she raised her eyes to look up at me.
"This is your seat isn't it," I stated. She looked at the desk I had sat on.
"It's fine, the desk doesn't have my name on it," she mumbled making a move to go past me.
"Wait! Here," I suddenly shouted. I rushed to grab my pencil case and bag and I moved a seat over. I looked back at the girl as she stared wide eyed at me.

I smiled encouragingly, well I hope it was encouraging. I patted the seat and she hesitantly moved to sit down.
"I'm Cassandra, call me Cassie," I told her. She looked back at me shyly and stuck her hand out. I felt my grin widen.
"Maddie, thank you," she replied hesitantly.

"No need to thank me, you should be mad at me for stealing your seat. I saw the look of longing on your face as you stared at the love of your life!" I proclaimed loudly. I watched a small smile appear on her face as she raised an eyebrow at me.
"You're weird," she said jokingly.
"That's how I like it," I winked at her making her laugh now.
"Oh look! Muddie made a new friend!" squealed someone who had just walked through the door. I watched as Maddie seemed to sink lower into her chair. The girl who had spoken walked through and stood in front of us with her arms crossed. She was a werewolf, yet that didn't help to change her appearance at all. She had make up plastered over the top of her face like a cake and her bleached blonde hair framed the cake itself.

"What's your name?" I asked her kindly plastering a big fake smile on my face. I knew her type and instantly didn't like her.

"Why should I tell you? You think just because you're the new girl it means you can ask for every single person's name like you're already friends with them?" she snapped sarcastically.
"Oh I don't really need to know your name, I don't really care. I just wanted to know so that I could avoid you if you ever come near me or my friend again." Her face went bright red instantly.
"How dare you!" she screeched into my face.
"Jorja, I hope you're not already intending to be mean to the newest addition of our class?" someone's intelligent voice interrupted her before she could say anything else.

She spun around and saw who I guessed was our teacher and ran to a seat up the back where the other wolves had sat themselves.

"That's more like it." the teacher looked at me with a steady gaze. He was a werewolf, yet he felt more powerful than the other wolves. Not as powerful as Alpha Raymond though but he was close on par with him.
"I'm Alpha Raymond's Beta, more like his second in command." His voice said clearly inside my mind. I nodded slightly without making the other students suspect.
"So new student, welcome to Clervance High I'm Mr. Rodgers,"
"Nice to meet you sir, I'm Cassie," I replied inside his head smiling. He smiled slightly back at me but then he morphed back into his straight teacher face. I almost started laughing at the clear change that overcame him as he started teaching.

While Mr Rodgers talked I tuned out for a second to glance over at Maddie, she had her bushy brown hair covering her face as she looked down at her book. I studied her face and noticed how beautiful and clean her face actually was. If she did something to that hair of hers and took off the glasses she could really make some guys fall over. I looked back to the front of the class realizing Maddie knew I was staring and I pretended that I was staring at Mr Rodgers the whole time. Mr Rodgers I noticed was drawing on the white board as he spoke, I breathed in and went to settle back into my chair, but then his scent hit me. It was a strong peppermint smell that filled my senses making me want to breathe it in forever like an addictive drug. I looked up and watched as he walked through the door. I jumped up from my seat staring at him.
"Mate," I whispered at the end of my breath. He seemed to hear my silent word and looked straight at me with dark gorgeous blue eyes.

He had curly black hair, some of it hung over in a cute lilt. He seemed to be staring at me just as I stared at him. He made a move to walk toward me but then I noticed his eyes hardened and he shook his head as if shaking off a blanket that had covered him. He seemed to stand straighter and he walked straight past me without even glancing in my direction again. It was like he had punched me right in the gut. My wolf whined as if in pain herself and I imagined her pawing the ground as if frustrated. I had no idea what had caused me so much pain, or what the word mate really meant to me. It all freaked me out and when I heard loud voices beside me and in front I blinked and focused back to what was happening in the room. Mr. Rodgers was there waving his hand in front of my face, I jumped backwards shocked at how close he was.

"Cassandra, are you okay?" was the first question he asked. I nodded slightly.
"I need to go... need air," I whispered really quietly. He nodded and moved to the side as I rushed out of the room. I didn't even look back at the person, not wanting to be captured by those eyes again. I ran out into the hall and then found my way outside of the school building. I bolted for the woods which were right across the road and I made my way into its cool dark depths.

I breathed in the forest itself feeling calmer as it had hit all of my senses at once. The slight wind on my face, the earthy smell and the soft tune of birds. It was exhilarating and all I wanted to do was change into my wolf and run as far as I could. Though I knew that as soon as I did that everyone would know and my cover would be blown. Instead I found a small earthy indent that acted as a path as it wound its way through the forest.

I started walking while breathing slowly. I didn't know what had happened with that guy in class but something was off about him. I tried asking my wolf but she would only whimper in reply. 'Mate' the word hung at the tip of my tongue, it could be the Australian term for friend I guessed, but why would I ever use that on a guy I only just met. The other meaning of the word scared me though, in nature an animal would find its own mate or they would be mated. What if we were a pair like that! No, that's impossible there's no way something like that could happen, having werewolves in this world is enough fiction. Adding a destined mate, that's completely ludicrous!
