chapter two: a town down
°°°
Last night, while the moon still shone & the sun had yet come forth, I suddenly awakened. For the time that had passed, my ability to rest once again had vanished, leaving me to do almost nothing for the time being.
At a reasonable time, just as the sky turned blue with a hint of grey--also before anyone else in the household awoke, I showered. It was warm, and long which I had enjoyed too much to want to step out of. Eventually though, I came to my senses & realized that it was best if I halted my relaxation.
After wrapping my body with a towel, and burrito wrapping my hair into another, I open the bathroom door just as an unexpected visitor was about to knock. "I--my bad," he apologized looking away from me once eye contact was made. With a blush on my cheeks, I awkwardly greeted him. "Good morning, Calum."
"It is now," he said immediately, and without a hint of hesitation. Furrowing my eyebrows I responded with a tone of confusion. "How so?"
"The first face of the day that I get to see is yours," he said making my heart melt, and taking me by surprise when he spoke again. "That's enough to make any morning great," said Calum with a smirk.
"Flattered that you think so, I hope my future husband thinks that too," I said with sudden confidence. He chuckled, "Well I'll be dammed if he doesn't." Having no response, I only smiled at him as I walked away & kept my cool until I shut my bedroom door behind me.
"Holy crap," I whispered to myself in disbelief of what had just occurred. For an unknown reason--that I'm surely not complaining about, Calum shows up where I live and flirts with me. Me, Athena, Chewbacca's twin. At this point, I was almost sure I was still in bed & dreaming.

"Dinner was delicious last night," Mom said as I watched her & Charles prepare breakfast. "I was going to save the left overs for you, but Luke had a friend over so I fed him that," she said, immediately making me think back to Calum.
"Did he sleep the night too?" I asked her, and she nodded. There's the missing puzzle piece. He came over, had dinner with them, and resulted in him staying over. Which is why he was home earlier. "How do you know?" asked Mom, and only telling her I had bumped into him this morning.
"Hey Dad, can I go to a party and Ashton's tonight?" Luke said walking into the kitchen, and sitting a couple of chairs away from me on the island. "Calum is going, and so is Nat," he added. Charles sighed as he served another waffle on a plate.
"You can have those," Charles told me, and I thanked him before digging in.
"Where is it?" he asked, Luke replying that the party was being held at a house cabin near the lake. Charles was silent for a couple of seconds, but after seeming to think thoroughly into it, he responded with a consent that made Luke grin.
"But," Charles added, "You have to take Athena with you." At this, Luke seemed annoyed. And although not protesting with words, his facial expression was enough to know that he wasn't fond of the idea of me tagging a long.
"If that's okay with you, I think it'd be great for you to join in. You could perhaps make some friends," Charles told me, and my mom's eyes brightened. "That's a great idea. Athena, honey, you're going," Mom said to me.
"What if I didn't want to go?" I asked her. "Yeah, what if she didn't?" Luke chimed in, receiving a glare from Charles.
"You need to go out more & live your teenage years. Make some teenage memories, honey." Although I was aware that Luke would be moody, I had realized that some friends would be nice to make. Therefore, I announced that I'd attend the party that I wasn't invited to by the host.
······
It was noon now, and after research, I discovered online that there was a mall a town away which I had asked my mother to drive me to. And currently, I wondered around looking for a couple of new clothes, and a red dress for Christmas that was coming up in two weeks.
"Is there anything I could help you with?" an employee asked once she approached. The name tag she had on her shirt read, Natalie, which suited her. The colour of her hair was light brown, and braided. Her eyes were hazel with average sized lashes, and a light tanned complexion.
She looked at the jean jacket that I held in my hands that I was looking at before she had come, and smiled. "I bought that same jacket a few days ago, it's my favourite piece of clothing right now." I smiled, and nodded. "You should get it, it would look amazing on you," she added.
"Thank you," I said, "could you actually help me find an outfit for a house party I'm going to?" I asked, and without hesitation she agreed. After about half an hour of choosing different pieces, and trying many outfits on, I had decided on one I adored.
"I love shopping with other people," Natalie said as she put the clothes inside a bag after I had payed. I smiled. "Especially when we have similar styles, I'm Natalie by the way," she said, and although I already knew that, I replied as if I didn't. "Fun to have met you, I'm Athena."
"We should for sure hang out one day," she suggested,"I would invite you to a party I'm going to tonight too, but you've got one of your own." I frowned.
"I actually live a town down, maybe we could go eat lunch or something," I suggested, and she seemed to like the idea. "I like a town down too, I just come here to work. I'll take you up on that offer, here give me your hand," Natalie said, writing down her cell phone number on me. "Text me so we could plan it out," she said before I walked out. I greeted her goodbye, and left.
