The Princess in the castle
"Daddy, there's this art class that I want to sign up for, can I?" the fifteen year old Rosalina asked her father as he sat in his office chair with his attention on his computer. The man glanced up at his daughter and saw how serious she was. He straightened his posture and leaned back in his chair, crossed his arms and asked, "how far is it from the house?"
Rosalina sighed and knew already that she was the loser of this conversation. She sighed and answered, "About 10 miles from here."
Her father shook his head and his eyes hardened at the many miles from home that was. He sighed and rubbed his eyes with his fingers in a tired manner.
"Rosalina, you know the rules." He spoke in that intimidating voice with his heavy Spanish accent. She sighed again - this one heavier than the others, because she knew better than anyone else did. Rosalina wasn't old enough to leave the house for more than 5 miles. She was well protected, but not only because she was the only daughter he had, but also because of the rivaling pack that was placed about 12 miles from theirs.
The Blood Moon Pack had been the rivals of New Moon Pack for as long as Rosalina could remember. It all started with Rosalina's grandfather who had gone to war with the Blood Moon's Alpha at that time, but when the fight started, they hadn't arrived. If it hadn't been because of their other alliances, her pack would've been wiped out.
Her father still hated that pack even though the war had been before his time. Rosalina couldn't blame him, because she knew that to her father there were only two things that meant everything to him; family and the pack. He was extremely protective of his family and pack.
That is also the reason Rosalina was under his rules. He hated her being unprotected and vulnerable, because he knew that there were dangers out in the world that she would never have to know of.
Her father had assigned her guards and she was being homeschooled. She could only go out in public if her father or brothers were with her.
Rosalina was fine with it, because she had grown up in this castle and she was used to being locked-up in her tower. However sometimes, when she read her romance novels, she dreamt of her prince breaking her out of that tower and growing old with her.
Her brothers were fine with their father's rules when it came to her. The way they saw the situation, was that she was safe and that was what mattered. They wanted her away from the cruel world that they lived in and seeing the pain everyday would be too hard for her. Rosalina wouldn't be able to cope in this world, she was far too pure and innocent, some may call her naïve.
"Alright daddy." That was how it usually went with their conversations. Rosalina would have a request, but when she spoke with her dad, it wouldn't end to her advantage.
Rosalina walked out of his office with an emotionless expression on her face, because she had not expected anything more than she had gotten from him. She walked past her brothers in the kitchen and out into the garden, where her mother was.
Her mother was on her knees plucking weeds out of her majestic garden with multiple flowers and bushes with different berries. Rosalina walked up to her mother, but not before saying hello to the guards standing on both sides of the door outside. Her mother looked up from her gardening and smiled pitifully at her daughter. She knew that her daughter had been in her father's office, because her husband had contacted her through their mindlink. She rose from her place on the ground and sat down beside her daughter on their stone bench.
"He loves you honey and he's scared for you." Her mother spoke and Rosalina nodded in understanding at her mother's statement. She knew all of those things, but that didn't mean she wasn't disappointed whenever he said no.
"I know mom, but I just want to be able to go to one thing. I don't care if my brothers are there - all of them - or Jorge and Macon are with me. I just want to go to this one art class." Rosalina's mother sat there and thought about it for a second. She wanted her baby to be safe, but she also wanted her to be happy.
Honey, maybe just this one time a week?
Rosalina's mother spoke to her mate through their link. She wanted to see her daughter smile and talk about her time at this class when she returned. She knew how passionate she was about drawing and painting. She had been like that too, when she was younger.
Absolutely not! You know the dangers out there for her!
Her mate was angered at the thought of their daughter in the clutches of The Blood Moon Pack. What if they got to her? What if they hurt her? Or in worst case scenario, what if they killed her?
She would be happy mi amor, our baby would be smiling every time she came home, please mi amado.
Rosalina's mother hoped with every fiber of her being that her mate would agree. She wanted this for her daughter. She wanted her to experience happiness.
Mi amor, please don't make me do this.
In other circumstances, she would be laughing at her mate's tone, but in this particular situation, she knew that he was going to agree to her bidding.
She already agreed to have guards my darling, she would be safe.
Rosalina sat beside her mother, knowing that she and her father were having a conservation through their mindlink. Rosalina wished that she had the ability to mindlink with her family and pack, but she had not shifted yet. She would shift on her 16th birthday.
You got your wish mi amor, she can go that one day a week, but nothing else, comprende?
Rosalina's mother could not be happier for her baby; she got her wish for the first time in years. She knew that her daughter would be thrilled.
Te amo. She told her husband with gratitude in her voice.
Yo también te quiero
"Rosa, come here darling. I have news." Rosalina approached her mother again after going around the garden smelling the roses, while her mother and father finished their conversation.
"You can go to your art class." Rosalina looked up at her mother in shock. She thought she had heard her wrong and her mother must've seen the confused look on her daughter's face, because she continued to explain.
"He agreed to let you go, if you took your guards or your brothers." Rosalina didn't think her grin could become bigger, but it did and she threw her arms around her mother and kept repeating thank you into her ear.
Rosalina then realized that she had to thank her father, and in that moment, when the thought occurred she sprung from her seat and raced inside. Her guards smiled to her when they saw her good mood and let her go inside, where her brothers sat on the couch still. They heard the commotion she was making as she raced inside and looked away from their game.
They saw the massive smile on their little sister's face and knew that their father had agreed to her request. That meant she was going to go beyond their borders and into no man's land.
Rosalina raced into her father's office and attacked him in his office chair with a gigantic hug. He pulled her onto his lap and soothed her as she cried from joy. He knew now that he saw how happy his daughter was, he had made the right decision, but he still couldn't shake the bad feeling off that held him from being 100 percent sure of this decision.
