After a good search for where exactly the locker room was, the girls finally found the building and entered the, by now, slightly crowded area. There were lots of girls in the room and, standing on a platform, was a prim looking lady.
She had a tight bun and a straight black dress which was loose at the top, so that it hung down in ripples from her neck, and tighter at the bottom. Her hair was a rich black to match her dress and she had a pale greyish mink around her neck. Practically she looked like the center of a fashion store with her tall sleek black heels. She spoke in a rather solemn manner though, which erased all the thoughts of her being young from the girls’ minds.
Next to her stood a younger woman who looked like her secretary with a clipboard. And on her other side stood a miserable looking girl about the same age as all of the rest of them.
The secretary began calling out names without even a greeting and the children answered ‘here’ when she called out their names. Bella and Cadlie were standing a few steps away from Princess and Dallia who were closer to the front of the room. Everyone was in a hushed manner and the room filled with the quiet noises of whispering as the girls began to talk about what was happening. Then the woman in black spoke.
‘Good afternoon, ladies. I know you are all wondering who I am and why you are here. Well this is a very serious matter. I am Madame Caroline and this is my secretary Miss Daynser.’
A few hushed giggles spread across the room at the mention of the secretary’s name but the headmistress soon silenced that with a well loud ‘SILENCE’.
‘Good, now let’s get down to business. This is only your first day here for those of you who have arrived today and your second for those who came in earlier, yesterday. And you are already breaking the academy rules which is, I must say, a rather irresponsible thing for you young ladies to do on your first days here! I’m assuming that you heard of rule number -1546- NO PETS ALLOWED!’ Bella let out a silent whimper and Princess looked at the headmistress as if nothing she said would make her care.
‘Well I am going to address this matter in front of all of you, which makes it easier since for some strange reason I learned that all the people who brought pets are on the same floor! Now, this girl, Miss…………….what is your name?’ Queried the headmistress.
‘Kylee Williams.’ The girl answered in a trembling voice.
‘Well, well Miss Kylee Williams has been caught with at least three pets on the compound. And they were all mice! This is what I define as clearly unacceptable in this academy. I will let you know that I know that there are at least four more of you, with pets on this compound. NOW, I will have NO-one with-holding information from me that they might have a pet here because I will find out who you are. As for Miss Kylee……..whatever her last name was, her pets will be confiscated and sent back to her home, along with her if she does not straighten up her posture and that absolutely horrible expression of hers. AND Miss your parents will be called for I am sure they did not possibly give you consent to bring such filthy creatures to this venue.’ The headmistress scolded.
‘They’re not filthy! They are my pets!’ moaned Kylee who look helpless up on the platform.
By then, Princess looked as if she could not control her anger. She stomped up toward the platform and stepped onto it with an air of professionalism about her, leaving a completely bewildered Dallia standing in the crowd. Then Princess turned toward the headmistress and spoke.
‘Well Miss………..whatever your last name was, I will have you know that I think you are very indiscreet and of the smallest of manners to pick out on a random poor girl, for something she probably never even knew of! I know I didn’t even SEE a scroll of rules anywhere around the school. So then it is your fault that she or anyone else brought pets and did not know. Furthermore we were never sent any copies of the rules and were never told them……….speaking for myself and I assume others in this room with pets!’
The room was now so quiet you could hear a pin to the carpet. As for the headmistress she looked just like a tomato that put on too much blush and was trying to conceal her anger. Princess nonetheless continued her speech with renewed energy.
‘I am a proud pet owner of a cat and my friend, a dog! What if we thought that we could bring them here to add style to our couture? What if we wanted them to model with us down the catwalk to enhance our performance? What if……..’
‘YOUNG LADY! WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS!!? Burst the headmistress her face now purple with anger.
Princess didn’t move a muscle and just stood there looking at the principal as if she had gone completely out of her mind. Then she continued to speak, ignoring the headmistress’s previous outburst, but was cut off again.
By then the headmistress had succeeded in cooling down a little and her face was going back to its flushed red color when she was less angry than before.
‘Well whatever you have to say I don’t want to hear it. But you are right about the rules and I’m beginning to think that the pets are not a bad idea if you agree to keep them clean and have them well house trained! BUT I do not, however, think that rats are a very good idea for a catwalk. I for one hate them with all my soul and I will not permit anyone to have them on this compound.’
‘Who cares if you hate them? Some people don’t and not because you don’t like one thing means you have to deprive others of it!’ Princess replied.
Now the headmistress looked outnumbered as the room burst into applause at that very moment. Everyone seemed to be supporting Princess now. In the end the headmistress had to give in and let the children keep their pets after a thorough lecture on where they must not defecate and other “important” aspects of a pet’s daily life.
Rumors spread fast and soon the girls were being approached by one or more girls from other floors asking millions of questions. Then the lunch bell rang and the headmistress’s voice came on loud speaker. Everyone was to report to the canteen to eat.
