The canteen was a large open spaced building with rails built in a pattern where the line was supposed to be. There were glass doors which slid to open a little compartment with dishes or any other thing which was on the menu. There were different tables all in the pale colors of yellow and pink with benches to match them. The girls walked into the canteen and immediately headed for the line with purse in hand.
‘Wow, even the canteen isn’t bad! This place is pretty nice according to looks!’ Cadlie said.
Princess had much to say but instead decided against it. As the line went forward a little each girl took a silver tray which already had a large plate with divisions and a small plate preferably for desert. It also had some cutlery (knife, spoon and fork) and a napkin together with a small card that said SMA academy attached to it.
‘So? What are you guys having for lunch….I think I’ll go for the biggest course there is in there.’ Bella said enthusiastically, nodding her head towards the row of food compartments where there were already ten people picking what they wanted for lunch.
‘Considering that in my opinion you look like you have been starting to put on some weight lately I’d say you should go for a small meal and lots of fruits for desert.’ Cadlie cast a wicked looking glance toward Bella who shrugged it off. But she did not take such a big meal after all!
‘I wonder if they have pasta in there! I mean it sounds like a good meal to start with along with some…….dish I know you guys wouldn’t know….but it involves chicken! It’s gourmet, my chef always makes it on Saturdays.’ Said Princess.
‘Well if it’s gourmet then they won’t have it dumbbell!’ retorted Cadlie with a smirk.
‘Excuse me? But I’ll just ignore that comment!’
‘Well has anyone heard me say a thing for the past…….few seconds?’ asked Dallia. ‘I know you guys don’t miss my voice but I don’t think I’m too eager for anything but rice and a few vegetables!’
‘Huh? Girl how could you go without that chicken stuff? I can smell it already!’ Of course that was Cadlie.
‘Yea, you’re vegetarian or something?’ asked Bella.
‘Well not really but I figured since I’m in this place and I’m expected to do good at the end of the summer I don’t think I want to add any calories to my diet! Besides my body shape is improving since then!’ answered Dallia with a smile. The thought of leaving behind as much food as she wanted for the summer seemed like a vague dream to her.
‘I don’t care what you eat as long as we get off this filthy line! I mean where are the waitresses? The candles? The menus!’
‘Princess would you shut up and acknowledge that we are NOT in a restaurant or a hotel?!?’ Bella snapped. Princess looked surprised and, since Bella hadn’t told her anything out of the way since now, she held her tongue.
After some waiting on the line and some hard choices the girls found a table and sat down. Bella picked up her chicken sandwich and munched on it intently. Dallia and Cadlie had picked out soup with bread for a dip and some ice-cream for desert. Princess however, chose a well-dressed chicken salad and held a carton of milk and some sorbet.
‘You know what I think is weird about this place?’ asked Bella.
‘No, what?’ replied Princess with a hint of sarcasm that probably meant ‘everything is weird about this place!’
‘Well, we have to pay for the food after we eat it! They can’t trust people here that much to think they’ll stop to pay instead of walking straight out and saving a few extra bucks!’ replied Bella.
The girls mused offer this for a while and finally decided that probably no-one had thought of such a thing. Princess led the way to the cash register and they paid for their meals.
‘Excuse me, but we don’t accept credit cards here.’ The cashier looked at Princess with a plain look. Princess stared back at her.
‘Excuse me, but I am pretty sure that you should accept cards. What kind of place is this! You don’t have a credit swipe? Oh lord it gets worst every minute!’
‘Don’t you have cash on you?’ The cashier looked at Princess with an impatient expression.
‘No! My parents expected you to accept cards so they didn’t bother to give me any cash! I just had to grab my card and leave. Now if you won’t accept the card then I guess you don’t want me to pay! So….what is your choice?’ Princess smiled sweetly as she said those words as if trying to make the cashier even angrier.
Dallia and Bella looked tired and Cadlie was looking at Princess as if she was a disgusting pool of dog poo. The cashier called out to one of the other workers and told them to get the machine from the other office. After a full ten minutes of waiting Princess finally paid her small bill and warned the cashier to leave out the machine because she didn’t intend to get any cash soon.
‘Wow, do you really have to make a spectacle everywhere you go?’ asked Cadlie still in a state of disgust at Princess’s attitude.
The girls walked to the gardens and decided to take a stroll down the well paved path. At an unexpected turn, they came face to face with Madame Caroline.
She looked each of them up and down, instantly recognized Princess and began to speak. ‘Well we meet again.’ She said coldly.
‘Hello Madame! How was your day! Tell us all about it! Did you go to the movies?’ Princess burst out questions like bullets which she intended to use as a trigger to Madame Caroline’s anger. But instead the headmistress ignored her and began speaking about other things. The girls had no idea why she was speaking with them and they continued the conversation until she dropped the bomb.
‘I hope you know, that all of you whom I assume supported this girl,’ she paused to nod her head at Princess, ‘will be punished in one way or the other. I have called in your parents miss so there is nothing you can do about it’ Princess just glanced at the headmistress with a look of impatience.
‘Thanks for letting me know, but I think that I am wasting my time speaking here this afternoon. I will be on my way now……… and so will you’ she added under her breath referring to the girls. With that they paraded out to their dorm room by that time roaring with laughter. They were so amazed at the way Princess simply turned down the headmistress.
‘I would never even think of such a thing!’ Dallia exclaimed. All of the others agreed although Cadlie still thought she would have done the same. They spent the rest of the day playing with Kitts and Ginger who both longed for attention after being left locked in the most un-entertaining dorm room. Then they crawled into bed exhausted after a tiring day.
