PRONOUN-ANTECEDENT AGREEMENT

Okay. So I just learned this in my composition class and I cringe at it. It sucks, and I make mistakes with it all the time. It's a pain, but it's a good thing to know.

Okay, so pronouns are a way to refer to people.
Singular                 Plural
He                              They
She                              Them
It
Okay?

Now, I'm not super sure what an antecedent is, I must have missed that day in class 😂. According to google it is a word that gives meaning to a pronoun. So, it's basically a noun that is later referred to by a pronoun.

The gist of it is:

The student lifted their backpack off the floor. WRONG. NO NO.
The student lifted his backpack off the floor.
YES. Basically it forces you to gender your noun. At least I haven't found a way around that to make it otherwise.

(So I have this person at school that demands to be referred to as "them". I mean you do you, but this person was being a b*tch. So one day, I got tired of it and said that they don't have pronoun-antecedent agreement. They didn't get it but my comp. class friends did. I thought it was funny.)

So basically, if you have a singular noun, your pronoun has to be singular. If you have a plural noun, you have to use a plural pronoun.
Got it? Cool. If any of you people that read this (if there are any) are younger, remember this, and your teachers later in will be impressed 👍👍.
