Ryker

I havent slept a wink last night. Everything Hazel said last night didn't make sence. Everyone has a past but I have a feeling her's is a lot worse than most. I know she is struggaling and I want to help her but I have a feeling it is going to be easier said than done. Whatever happened has had a huge effect on her life. I am going to do anything and evrything to help her get over whatever it is. My alarm clock snaps me out of my thoughts telling me that it is time to get ready for school. I climb out of bed and throw on a pair of jeans and a black t-shirt on as well as a light brown leather Jacket. I grab my bag before walking into the kitchen and sitting at the table as my mom brings my dad and I our breakfast. I silently eat it letting my thoughts take over.

"Is everything okay?" My mom asks.

"I'm not sure there is a girl at school that has peaked my intrest but she is really closed off. Something happened to her within the last two years and it wasn't good. Dad do you think you can call in a favor from  Kain?"

"I can try what is her Name?"

"I dont know her middle name but her first name is Hazel and her last is Grace."

"Okay I will see what I can do. why don't you head off to school." He suggests.

I nod my head standing up from my chair. I give my mom a kiss on the cheek before walking to the front door and walking to school. When I arrive I walk to my locker and put my bag inside only grabbing a pencil. I get to the meet up spot for me and my group waiting for them to come over. Many kids walk by staring at me weirdly. I glare at them to which they tear their stare from mine and scurry away. Not much later my group shows up and we huddle in a group me with my back against the locker. I watch as Hazel walks in the front door and walks to her locker. The loving and caring face from last night is replaced with the hard and cold façade everyone here expects. No one dares to walk up to her and make conversation. I watch as she walks past me and down the hall as people instantly move out of her way.

"Dude were you even listening." Cameron one of my buddies asks snapping his fingers in my face.

"No I spaced out. Sorry man. what were you saying?" I apologize.

"We should all go out to the diner close by after school." He says.

"Yeah sounds good."I state.

"Great." He smiles.

"I am going to go to class now." I say walking away after doing a bro handshake thing with Cameron.

I start walking to class when I run into someone. Come on two days in a row like what the frack. I look down and find none other than Hazel.

"I thought I told you to stay away and watch yourself new guy." She spits.

"Yeah yeah I know cupcake. trust me I had no intention of bumping into you." I state back.

She rolls her eyes but I can see it in her eyes a slight sparkle a glimmer of hope as she looks into mine and for a second her wall starts to crack but it is gone just as fast. She bumps into my shoulder walking down the hall and into the distance. I continue my walk to class and sit in my seat when I arrive. The teacher soon arrives and the lesson begins.

For the remainder of the day I don't run into Hazel and I find myself driving to the diner to hang out with the boys. When I arrive they are already sat so I pull a chair up and order a chocolate milkshake. We sit and talk about random things when my phone starts ringing.

"Hey whats up?" I ask into the phone.

"Hey Ryker your dad called me and told me about your question. I did find some information but I don't think I should give it over the phone. Why don't you meet me at my house later tonight and I can give you the information then." Kain responds.

"Awesome thanks. I will see you later." I say.

"Bye Ryker se you later." He says before hanging up.

When I put my phone back in my pocket and look up I come face to face with 5 confused teenage boys.

"What was that about?" Cameron asks.

"Oh it was just my dad he has something for me." I lie.

"Ah." He says slowly.

I continue to drink my milkshake as the boys talk and chat. my mind is consumed with possibilities and the curiosity is killing me. once I have finished I decide to pay and say bye to the boys and head home. I throw my backpack on the couch walking into the kitchen finding my mom eating a snack.

"Hey sweetie how was school today?" She asks when she sees me.

"It was good I guess." I say remembering this morning.

"Something wrong?" MY mom asks.

"No everything is fine mom I'm just worried about the one girl I was talking about this morning. Kaine called me and he found her file but I don't know anything yet so I am kind of anxious." I say.

She nods her head in understanding and I simply walk away without another word. When I get up to my room I look at the alarm clockon my nightstand and it says 5:30. I decide to just go over to Kains house no so I walk out of my room and head to the front door. I tell my mom I am leaving before walking out and heading for my car. I hop in and pull out heading down the street and to Kaines house. When I finally arrive I park the car and walk to his front door knocking on it. After a few moments the door is opened and I am met with a guy about 5 feet 11 inches with dark brown hair and olive skin. His eyes are blue and his jaw line is shaped nicely, Kaine.

"Thanks for helping me." I state  walking into his house.

"No problem, please make yourself comfortable." He says motioning to his couch.

I sit down and my eyes lock with a manila folder.

"Is that it?" I ask pointing to the folder.

"Yes it is but Ryker what you find in there is only known to a few people and it is something life changing. It was covered up I don't know how but I had to go through a lot of digging to find it. You can open it whenever but I assume no one wanted anyone to ever see this." He informs.

"Thanks Kaine I really appreciate your help." I say standing up and shaking his hand.

I pick the folder up and head for the door him following closely behind.

"Anytime." He says.

I walk back to my car and drive home going up to my room the folder in my hand. I lock the door and sit on my bed. I open the folder I scan through the paperwork and pictures. What I see and read is not at all what I expected. At least now I know when she acts the way she does.
