CHAPTER ONE

I lay in the snow, letting the flakes fall around me. My sweatshirt is getting damp, but I keep laying down anyway. I love the snow because it's a part of my element, water. As a flake falls from the sky, I freeze it in the air and bring it to my hands. After looking at it for a little while, I drop it down. As I begin to close my eyes, my mother calls me inside. "Reece, come inside. You have to get ready." At first, I didn't know what my mother meant, but I soon realized what she was talking about. I had to get ready for a dinner, one that would determine which specializing school I would go to. I run inside and look at my mother, "What time does it start?" She responds, "4:30". I look at the clock, 3:59. I run upstairs to change. I put on a dark purple dress, the sleeves being lace with flower designs. I brush my shoulder length blonde hair and go down stairs. 4:15. My mother practically pushes me out door to get to the car.

When we arrive, the scenery is very formal and many teenagers, like me, are trying to impress professors with the use of their element. A curly brown haired boy comes up to me, "Which specializing school are you going to, babe?" I turn around to look him the eye. He has deep emerald eyes and his hair is just perfectly messy, he's absolutely stunning. After recovering from his looks, I shrug, "Haven't gotten into one yet, I just got here." He flashes a brilliant smile, "Try getting into Hyland's University, and I'll see you there." I raise my eyebrows, "What's your name?" He smiles again, "Harry. What's yours?" I hesitate, but I finally answer, "Reece Hill." He observes me, looking up and down my body, "Your a water aren't you?" What just happened? I squint my eyes, "How did you know?" He smiles, once again, "Your icy blue eyes, your nature, and the rest is a secret." He looks across the room, and says a quick goodbye. Strange.

My mother brings a professor over to me, "This is Reece, the water user, she's very talented. Reece, honey, this Mr. Halk, he's with Hyland's University." I smile at the familiar university name, oddly wanting to go there. "Let me take you outside, show you what I can do," I tell him. We walk outside toward a fountain. Though I haven't really done this before, I try a very advanced trick. I look at Mr. Halk, "Please stand by the tree, and trust me. Don't move." With the magic flowing through me, I remove the water from the fountain, thrust it at Mr. Halk, and froze it just before it hit him. He looked over at me with a look of fright, yet he was impressed, "Mrs. Hill, that was amazing. We would be honored if you joined us at Hyland's University." I smile, "I'm in."
