Rose - Chicago

The sounds of sirens woke me from my deep slumber.
The shining sun in the sky told me that it was early morning. Climbing out from the rocky shore under the fierce bridge, I was shocked at the commotion that was being caused. Cars lined up for miles, honking and carrying on, but that all was drowned out by the sirens from police vehicles. Ignoring the sickening feeling in my stomach, I kept walking away. My jeans were ripped at my knee, and my blue shirt was dirty and smelled bad. Today is the day that my whole life is to be reconstructed from the tiny pieces that I left it in.

Disappointment burrowed itself deep in my stomach. The disappointment that I couldn't stay for her; that I couldn't stay for my friends; that I couldn't even commit last night. I knew that she would would figure out that I 'committed' last night soon, when the truth is, I wasn't strong enough to do that.

There is no way that I could go back to her, she would never forgive me for doing that.

I began my journey to find a new life, walking through the miserable streets of Chicago. People flooded them like ants, ignoring me like the dirt of the earth which I simply felt accustomed to, which startled me as I had been locked away from the world behind the gates of Timberline Knolls.
I knew I couldn't stay in Chicago, well at least not while the hype of the 'suicide' was raging. I needed money and I needed it now, before the press exploited Timberline Knolls and my face was plastered on every newspaper announcing the celebratory of my death.

The city was never my favourite place, so I found myself feeling rather lost and confused while wandering the city, in search of the familiar tall tree that was rooted beside the tramline. But when I finally found the tree I'd been searching for, I felt a sea of relief. It was still early afternoon which left me with just enough time to do what I needed.
The walk to the familiar house I once called my home seemed longer than I remember, but in reality it wasn't. I knew I needed to be in then out as fast as possible to ensure somewhere safe to stay tonight.

The cash was in the same place I left it; taped to the back of my late sister, Robbie's old clown portrait she had got when we were in New York one Christmas. There was over two-thousand dollars taped, I had been planning my disapearance for years now. As soon as Robbie was gone, I came to the conclusion that there was nothing anchoring me here anymore. There was no need for me to tag along to my parents, it was obvious they didn't want me intruding on their lives now that their golden child was gone, so I took it to myself to aquire money some how to then leave when I had enough. But sadly, my 'enough' back then wasn't accumulated quickly enough, my parents had sent me off to the loony bin to 'get better', or at least thats what they told their friends.
Something told me to check my fathers' sock draw, so I went with my instincts, finding another two grand. The positives of parents being rich lawyers or something who spend their time schmoozing their 'friends' who happened to have money. I stashed the money in a small backpack along with a bottle of water and a change of clothes, and with that, I left.
