Demi - Los Angeles
After many hours of unpacking and rearranging the furniture that filled my room for the time being, I made my grand entrance to the living room where Cordelia sat, watching what seemed to be Sabrina, the Teenage Witch or something.
"I was wondering when you would be finished in there." Cordelia grinned. I returned her smile, glancing over to the kitchen, trying to think of something light to eat before I cooked something for dinner. "Are you hungry?" she questioned. I was quite taken aback by her question, not that it was a 'too sensitive' topic, but rather that she had picked up on my emotions.
"Not really, I think I'll wait until dinner." I smiled. Praying she would drop the subject.
"Alright, what did you wanna do for dinner then?" Her question stumped me, I had no idea what I wanted and the only thing I could cook was toast.
"What do you usually eat?" I returned her question.
"Cereal." No kidding, she's tiny, she couldn't eat much more than that. "I mean, we don't really need to know what we are eating for another two or so hours, so don't stress about it. We can think of something later." She smiled.
There was something odd about Cordelia, I wasnt sure if it was her constant smile or the way she seemed to only eat cereal, but I didn't seem to mind it. As bad as it sounds, I like knowing that I could be somewhat normal around her.
"Demi!" Cordelia chimed, exiting the apartment, onto the small terrace that overlooked the grounds. I sat with a small blanket over my legs, watching the birds swoop and play in an old oak tree that wasnt too far away from our building. "Did you want to go for walk? I'll show you around the place. It's really lovely here."
"That would be amazing." I smiled, picking myself up from the chair that I had moved to the perfect position to see the oak. Cordelia excused herself for a moment, returning to her room while I took it as the perfect opportunity to slip on a pair of flats to walk in. I remained in my skinny jeans and nude cardi from this morning, only reapplying lipbalm. I returned to the living room just as Cordelia did, wearing sneakers and holding her handbag. We exited the room, climbing down the two flights of stairs and heading out into what seemed like a maze of natural art. Spring seemed like it was God's way of congradulating me through the struggling winter, and everytime I had the opportunity to get outside, I did.
-
Cordelia introduced me to almost every person we walked past, which I didnt let bother me as I needed an excuse to talk to them anyway, and if Cordelia was that excuse, I didn't mind. I
"Aren't Amanda and Shaylee lovely?" Cordelia smiled, trying to help me with remembering names.
"Yeah, I like them." I offered her a smile, which she gladly returned.
"Oh my God! You have to come to my favourite part of the garden!" I chuckled at her enthusiasm about a garden and followed behind her quickly, until she ubruptly stopped. We stood face-to-face with an overgrown climbing plant that climbed up the back of the main building. Pretty purple flowers hid among the thorny plant. I'm not sure what it was about the plant, but it reminded me of Rose, and it took all of me not to break down crying. I took a seat on one of the stones that lined the garden, opposite to the plant. Cordelia continued looking up the plant, trying to see the top, and I tried my hardest to focus on doing the same, and not Rose. It hurt too much.
"Demi, are you okay?" Cordelia questioned as she sat on the rock next to me.
"Yeah, I think I am. I just miss my mom." I tried.
"It gets easier, trust me." I had a feeling she knew that I wasn't telling the entire truth, but neither of us didn't say anything else. "How about we grab something to eat? There's this new sushi place around the corner, I heard it's pretty good?" she tried to change the subject which I mentally thanked her.
"Sounds good." I smiled and followed her out of the orchard.
-
Sushi wasn't too bad. The only thing that made me feel uncomfortable was the crowd in the restaurant. I handled the food well and sipped a melon soda (A.N is this a thing in America idk I only had it in Japan) while Delia carried on about some of the classes she attended at college. College had never been an option for me. It was either singing, acting and/or dancing. There was no in between in my mothers eyes, it would have been a shame if I didn't like any of these things. I would have been stuck with them anyway.
Cordelia ate more than I expected her too, but I saw her eyeing off one of the alcoholic drinks on the menu, something I would have to watch as her sober roommate. When we were just about finished and had enough of the bad echoes of white girls and middle-aged men attempting karaoke we left. I was trying to keep my mind away from Rose but was failing. My mind swirling and twirling around her. I was pulled out of my thoughts when Cordelia nudged me into an alley way.
"What the fu-" her hand stopped my cuss. She looked around in panic while I glared at her in confusion.
"Someone's following us."
