Titus woke up from his sleep early in the morning. The sun was peaking out from the hills, shading the world with its orange glow, the birds chirped, and the crickets still chirped. Titus yawned and then quickly remembered. Today was hunting day, he gulped and hurried out of bed. He was going to be late for his first lesson, his mom surely left without him. He hurriedly got out the bed and got dressed. The three year old dragon dressed in a pair of small hand sewn pants and a knitted shirt. He then grabbed his bow and knives. He ran out his room and grabbed his bag on his way out the front door as he slammed the door being him. He ran into the forest looking for his mom. He stayed still a listened carefully, he then gulped as he began to here rustling in the bushes, his mom would have said it was her. He then looked to the bush and then gasped as something jump out and pinned him to the ground. Sarah chuckled and smiled at her son."Gotcha! You have to be quicker then that if you are to survive out here son.", She said with a small smile. Titus took in a deep breath and then looked up at his mother."Meanie.", he pouted.Sarah looked at him."Oh come on Titus, don't be like that. I was only having a bit of fun with you. Is that so wrong?", she said with a smile as she then tickled his sides. He began to giggle and wiggle as he tried to escape."Stop it!", he laughs and gasps. She then stops and picks him up off the ground and lightly sets him down."Okay, so now it is time to get serious. We are going to be starting easy today. I found a place where a lot of deer roam, you are going to use what I taught you to find where it is. If you need help just ask.", she said to him as he nodded. He then looked around for any tracks, he found a few deer tracks and began following them. Sarah followed behind him as she pay attention to any dangers. Her ears, nose, and eyes on the alert.Titus sniffed the air and looked around, he was doing the same as his mother.Their ears twitched as they heard a branch snap in the distance. Titus then went into a crouch along with his mother. He looked around from where the sound came from. There was a deer standing near a field, it was grazing on some grain. He nodded to his mother and held up the bow. He was a lot bigger then a regular three year old as most dragons age fast, being fully grown at the age of 10. He pulled back against the sting as the wood creaked a bit from the strain. He then let go as the bow hummed and the air flew through the air into the deers shoulder. It then ran off in a panic. Sarah then nodded as they both began to follow the blood trail. It laid on its side panting and frightened. Sarah then handed a knife to Titus."Okay, now just stab it in the heart and put it out of its suffering.", she said as she smiled proudly at Titus. Titus took the knife and nodded as he walked towards the slowly dying animal. He then positioned the knife over its chest, where its heart would be. He then took a deep breath and closed his eyes as he pushed downward quickly and roughly. The blade cut through the skin and meat, into the now still heart. He sighed and pulled the knife out. He then looked up at Sarah."Momma, why do we need to kill to survive. It feels horrible taking another life." Sarah sighed and looked at her son."We kill to eat and we make sure it doesn't suffer due to ensure we are good huntsmen. You have nothing to feel bad about as long as you follow my teachings.", she said. He nods and smiled weakily."When do we eat?" , he asked. They returned home and she then taught Titus how to skin and cook the deer that was caught. She then explained how to season and preserve the meat. She also taught him how to use the bones and skin to make many different tools and clothing. Titus nodded and learned everything extremely fast. He smiled and enjoyed learning, he then looked at his mother."Momma, why am I different from you?", Sarah gulped and sighed as she thought a moment."Well, you see son you dad was a dragon and he married mommy, so then we decided to have you. Then he got really sick and passed on. He always loved you.", she decided to lie to him to protect him from the truth that he was really left to die. She hugged him and smiled."So, how about we eat and get you a bath and go to bed.Titus accepted this answer and nodded with a smile."Okay.", he said with a yawn.
