I awake in the morning to the loud, busy sounds of town life. Cars speed down the street, someone across the road is using a blender, and a lawnmower rumbles. Obviously it's not a nice way to start the morning, but it's a Saturday today so I'm happy nonetheless. Waking up without an alarm is peaceful, even with the cacophony of the street floating through my open window.
I swing my legs out of my covers and onto the floor, pausing to pull on some fuzzy socks. Groggily, I walk over to my mirror and survey myself. My hair sticks up in all directions, curly and in desperate need of a trim. To my surprise, my skin is cleared and the under-eye circles I had are almost gone. I smile back at myself, throwing my hair into a messy bun before traipsing downstairs to eat.
Maddie's at the breakfast table, looking great in adidas exercise gear. "Morning." She greets through a mouth full of toast.
"Morning." I giggle, reaching into the pantry for my favourite cereal. It makes a clinking noise as it all falls into a bowl, and I slosh in the milk afterwards. Maddie pushes me a half-drunken glass of apple juice.
"Want it?" She asks, swallowing.
"Sure." I shrug, downing the glass and then taking my bowl into the dining room to eat.
"Wanna go on a run after that?" Maddie calls after me. "I am!"
"Okay, just give me a little time to get ready!" I call back.
Maddie yells back in confirmation before I hear her walking upstairs. Then I am alone at the table, looking through the window as I eat. My neighbor is still studiously moving his lawns. Stupid noisy git.
Maliboo, our dog, comes sprinting and barking down the hall when she realises I'm awake. Without pausing, she jumps up into my lap. I let out a gasp in surprise before laughing and stroking her head with my free hand.
I finish my cereal soon after, and gently set Maliboo on the ground before walking to put away my dishes. Pushing free strands of hair off my face, I start up the stairs again to get dressed.
I pick a skin tight blue singlet that hugs my curves to exercise in, along with some black tights. Nike free runners complete my look. With a grin, I tie my hair up into a higher bun that's much tighter than my last. I look like a girl who no one should mess with. Hopefully Johnny will see me when we go pass his house.
I'm sure Johnny thinks kissing me was a mistake, because he's barely spoken a word to me since it happened. Whatever signals I got from him must have been wrong. And maybe he never did flirt with me, maybe he just has a teasing nature.
