The loud, buzzing sound of the alarm awoke her, and she mumbled with irritation, "Forget school." Putting the pillow over her face, she attempted to go back to sleep but the intense knock on her door rudely interrupted.
"Don't you have school young lady!" her mom said firmly.
"Yesss...." Summer murmured with annoyance.
"Yes what?!"her mom shouted.
"Yes, mom," Summer replied.
While walking to school summer saw a man getting pulled over by a cop,the man started raging,it was evident he was not pleased with the situation. Summer watched as he rolled down his windows and addressed the cop."Good morning sir,you do know your speeding right, you were going way over the speed limit" the cop said. "My daughter had a heart attack."the man said while breathing heavily. "I understand sir but its against the law."the cop responded. The man held down his head in disbelief while apologizing. "Okay here's what ,I will let you slide this time, but if I catch you speeding again you will pay double the cost.' "Thank you! God will bless you" the man shouted as he drove off.
Summer decided to approach the cop,"why did you do that?" she questioned,"because it was the right thing to do?" "How did you know it was the right thing to do?" Summer questioned in a confused tone. "I saw a brother in distress and I choose not to add to his problems, I also put my self in his shoes,if my daughter had a heart attack I would fly." the cop chuckled. Summer smiled and walked away pondering the kind gesture she witnessed.
She rushed to her first period after being a couple minutes late for the second time, due to the incidents she's been witnessing, are they signs summer thought as she ran to class, but from who? Summer questioned.
As she sat down, she heard the topic of kindness being discussed the teacher began lecturing: There is a popular story "The good Samaritan" which reads: A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. 'Look after him,' he said, 'and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.'
This story teaches us to extend a helping hand to those in need, no matter the circumstance, their status, economy or skin tone.
The bell rang signaling the end of class, Summer walked pridefully to her next class with the new knowledge she acquired.
At the end of the day Summer was greeted by Boston, the guy she met on her first day, they had a enticing discussion about the lesson they were taught earlier in religious beliefs and practices,Summer learned a lot from Boston and observed that he seemed to know a lot about the bible.
"How do you know so much?" Summer questioned, "I live in a very religious home,my family teaches me vital lessons in how to live and grow in a Christ like manner." Boston said proudly. Intrigued by the discussion Summer was eager to know more. "Teach me" she requested.
Arriving at home, summer was welcomed by an empty house her mom was no where to be found, for the second day in a row. Summer decided not to call, she ran upstairs to her room and started jamming to Pandora music while doing her homework. The song "Mighty to save" came on and the words reminded her of the lesson she received about kindness.
Everyone needs compassion
A love that's never failing
Let mercy fall on me
Everyone needs forgiveness
The kindness of a Saviour
The hope of nations.
Saviour, he can move the mountains
My God is mighty to save
He is mighty to save
Forever Author of Salvation
He rose and conquered the grave
Jesus conquered the grave
So take me as you find me
All my fears and failures
Fill my life again
I give my life to follow
Everything that I believe in
Now I surrender
Shine your light and let the whole world see
We're singing for the glory of the risen king Jesus
Shine your light and let the whole world see
We're singing for the glory of the risen king Jesus.
The song inspired her to do something good for someone else as the person being sang about did for us. The loud knock on her door put an end to her thought, "come in " summer shouted. "Did u cook? Her mom questioned in a sharp tone, No I ate a sandwich, "Did u clean up?" Her mom questioned again, Summer responded with irritation "yes mam."
"Don't let me be the one to wake you up in the morning, be up on time!"😑 her mom said as she slammed the door shut.
