I practically jumped out of my seat and ran for the door as soon as I heard that last bell ring. I couldn't wait to get out of here. First days aren't that bad but, I wasn't being optimistic considering I have a whole school year ahead of me. Jackson and I always meet by my locker after last period. It's been that way since Freshman year and I prayed to God that Sierra didn't interfere with that. I was shoving all of my books into my locker when I felt tapping on my shoulder. I turned to see Jackson.
"Hey! Traditions stick, huh?" He moved beside me so he could lean against a row of lockers.
I couldn't keep from smiling, "I guess so." I gave one last push and got all of my books into the locker, closing it as fast as I could. "Finally." I mumbled to myself.
"What're you doing after school?" He asked, running his fingers through his hair.
"Nothing much, what about you?"
And then Sierra showed up, grabbing his arm and pulling him away with her. He said a quick, "Bye!" And Sierra gave me a look over her shoulder. I slammed my hand against my locker, letting out a sigh of defeat.
I went outside and sat on the steps to wait for Maya. Her last class was on the other side of the school so I didn't blame her when she showed up a few minutes later than I wanted. We walked to her car and drove home. She talked about school work and reading the entire way there. I sat there, deep in my thoughts, giving an occasional nod and "Mm" between her sentences.
