My head started to get really dizzy, I took off my jacket and put it on the floor, I lied down on the floor and shut my eyes, Caleb did the same right next to me and we both fell into a deep sleep.
The next morning I woke up with a really big headache, my head was pounding. I looked to my left to find Caleb staring at the paintings on the wall. Caleb is such a nerd, which comes in handy sometimes.
I brushed my fingers through my hair, "whatcha doing Caleb?"
"I've been up for several hours trying to figure these paintings out and I've realized something." He said without turning around.
"That they are horribly drawn." I laughed; I'm such a smart alec.
"No, they're math problems."
I stood up, "have you solved them?"
"That's what I've been trying to do, I'm an A plus student in every subject but I can't solve this dumb old math problem."
"Don't worry about it; it's probably not even important." I walked around the weird house looking at all the walls. I knelt down at the sight of the wall peeling a little bit. I pulled it back to reveal a box in the wall, a safe.
"Caleb, Caleb come here."
He ran over and knelt down beside me. "Whoa, I wonder what's in it."
"Me too, do you think this place relates to my power?" I actually felt really smart fitting the puzzle pieces together.
"I think so," Caleb grabbed my hand and we walked over to the paintings. "In this picture here this girls appears to be lifting up this bottle with some force and there seems to be something inside of the bottle." He pointed to the girl.
The mysterious liquid in the bottle was the only thing that wasn't painted in black, it was purple. I studied the paintings some more.
"I think this is a story about a girl with powers," I placed my finger on the paintings. "And over here is the black box and in the background is this house! And here is the safe! And another person who looks paralyzed!" I stepped back examining it all.
"Maybe the bottle is some sort of antidote!" Caleb's voice was hopefully.
"If that is true, then where can we find it?"
Caleb ran to the safe. "Maybe it's in here."
"What's the combination?"
"No idea."
"We should head home, it's around noon and your brother is probably freaking out, along with my parents and Mack's."
Mack, I turned around to face her, she was still the same. Caleb and I grabbed onto her and walked out of the house, she was heavier than before.
"Can't you just lift her up with your power, she's so heavy." Caleb whined.
"Good idea." We placed her on the ground and I lifted her up in front of us, yeah, this was so much easier.
After 20 more minutes of walking, we finally got to my house. I lived in a normal two story house, nothing special. It's beige and has a nice patio. I have a nice neighborhood and all. I called Mack's mom right away and told her Mack wasn't feeling well and she wanted to sleepover. Caleb called his parents and told them he also slept over and his phone died. Right away Caleb asked for my laptop and started researching. I lifted Mack safely onto my bed and sat next to Caleb on the couch in the living room.
Ben came through the door and dropped his keys, "Dang it Casey where have you been?" His voice sounded more mad than concerned.
I stood up, "Oh you know, being stranded in the middle of nowhere and having to sleep in an abandoned house in 60 degree weather while my brother was smoking with his stupid friends!"
Ben grabbed onto my shoulders and pulled me close, "I'm so sorry Casey, this is my fault. I'm so happy you made it home safe and sound."
I swung my arms to hug Ben back causing his keys to fly up and hit him in the head.
"Ow, what was that?"
"That was me, sorry, you deserved it though."
"I'm so sorry." He frowned.
"It's okay, I'm glad you're okay too."
We let go and Ben headed towards the door, "I'm going to go throw this away." It was a pack of cigarettes.
"I'm proud of you."
He smiled.
I turned around to face Caleb who was nearly dying of laughter. "Way to control your powers."
"Shut up you goof." I plopped onto the couch, "found anything?"
"Nope, nothing." Caleb sighed, "If this was a book or a movie we would find at least a little information that would lead to more clues and then more and then more. But, there is nothing."
I could tell Caleb was sad, his eyes said it all. I rested my head on his shoulder. "Maybe we're just looking in the wrong places." I yawned, I'm so tired.
"The paintings!" Caleb stood up causing me to fall on the couch.
"What about them?"
"Maybe the math questions really are important! Maybe they will give us a clue!"
"You know what, you're probably right!" I got really excited, and then remembered something, "but we have no idea where the place is."
Caleb smirked, "oh yeah we do." He pulled out a piece of paper with directions to the house. "I drew this while walking back here earlier today. Never say I didn't do anything right."
"Caleb I love you!" I kissed him. I pulled away in complete shock.
"Ehem uh uh, shall we go?" He was still for a second.
"Yes we should."
