Second Chance

Chapter 2

Yugi's POV

Joey and I are getting ready to head to the mass assembly for the new year and I am so nervous. "Hey bud don't be nervous. I'm sure we'll make lots and lots of friends," says Joey. "Yeah I guess I am just a little nervous is all. I'll be fine," I say. He nods and I put on the school uniform of a white long sleeve button up underneath, and a blue jacket and pants. "Dang you actually make this outfit look good Yugi," says Joey. "Thanks Joey," I say and smile. We head down to the assembly hall and sit with the other freshman.

"Is this seat taken," asks a brown haired dude. "Nope it's all yours," I say. "My name is Tristan. What's yours," he asks. "My name is Yugi and this is Joey. It's good to meet you," I say and shake his hand. "Yeah you too. You wouldn't have seen a guy named Duke Devlin running around have you," he asks. "Oh we ran into that guy yesterday. He was warning us about a guy named Yami," says Joey. "Oh yeah I have heard about that guy," says Tristan. "Hey isn't that him over there," says Joey.

I look over to where he is looking and sure enough Yami is sitting over against the far wall, but he is staring at me. I don't know why either. I look away as the assembly starts and the teachers go over the rules and don't do this and don't do that. The assembly drags by and soon we are let out because it's finally over. Then all of a sudden, I run into someone and I look up and I see it's Yami. "Umm I'm sorry," I say. "It's alright I wasn't paying attention," he says with a deep voice. "Umm what's your name," I ask.

"My name is Atem but a lot of people call me Yami," he says. "Oh did you make up the nickname or did they," I ask. "They did. Where did you find the pyramid around your neck," he asks. "My Grandpa gave it to me after he got back from an expedition in Egypt," I say. "Oh alright," he says and then he just abruptly leaves. Joey comes back up to me. "Did he bother you Yugi," he asks. "No he just had a question about this," I say and hold up the Puzzle. "Let's get back to the dorm before he comes back," he says.

We go back to the dorm and when we round a corner, I swear that I see Yami in a shadow in the corner staring at me. Wait Yami, his real name is Atem. I sigh as we enter our room. "Dang that was one long assembly," says Joey. "Yeah, where do you want to go for dinner," I ask. "We can just go to the cafeteria later or order a pizza and have it delivered here," says Joey. "Let's just order a pizza and we can stay in and duel," I say and Joey nods and calls the nearest pizza place. I get out my deck.

"Alright it will be about 20-30 minutes till the pizza is here," he says and gets his deck. "Alright what did you order," I ask. "A supreme and a pepperoni if that's alright," he says. "Sounds great," I say. "Hey Yugi, I've got a question for you," says Joey. "Alright Joey," I say. "What else did Yami say to you earlier," he asks. "Well he told me his real name for one," I say. "So his real name isn't Yami," asks Joey. "No his real name is Atem. I'm assuming Sennen is his real last name, but he told me that Yami is a name the other students gave him," I say.

"Yeah probably for being so creepy," says Joey. "Well maybe he is just misunderstood," I say. "You're a lot nicer than I am that's for sure," says Joey. "Well I have been bullied before so I know what it's like to be in his shoes in a way," I say. "Wow umm I'm sorry Yugi. I don't know why people would do that to you," he says. "Don't be it's not your fault," I say. He smiles. "Now lets get to dueling and building our decks," says Joey. We sit there a build our decks for a bit and then we get a call from the front desk.

I go down to get the pizza since Joey ordered it. I pay the man and take the pizza from him. I look up and see Yami standing in the shadow watching me again and I walk up to him. "Do you need something from me," I ask. He looks like he wants to say something, but doesn't and he grunts and walks away and out of the building. I shake my head and go back upstairs with the pizza. "More crazy encounters with Yami," I say as I walk in the door. Dang it I called him that again.

"What did he do this time," asks Joey. "He just was watching me again and when I asked if he needed something he just walked off," I say. "Weird, I'd honestly stay away from him if I were you," says Joey and we dig into our pizza. He eats a whole one by himself. "I didn't know you could eat that much," I say. "Well that's just one of my special abilities," he says with a laugh. "Yeah just like the cards," I say. "Well I'd say we've got two pretty strong decks so let's duel," he says. We go through about five duels and I win them all.

"Dang you're just too good Yugi," he says. "You'll get there Joey. You've just got to practice some more," I say. "Well I think it is time to snooze," says Joey who stretches. "Yeah you are right," I say. We both change and get to bed because classes start tomorrow. I sure hope I'm ready.
