I would consider Ella to be my best friend. It was a nice change to have a close friendship with a girl. The majority of my friends are guys, so to have a female's perspective on some things was eye opening, and even though many people thought we were more than friends, we never were. If anything, I thought of Ella as a sister more than a friend. I just wish she had felt comfortable enough around me to reveal her diagnosis. I wouldn't have judged or treated her differently. In fact, I would have thought of her in a higher regard than I already did. It takes strength to wake up every morning and go about your day, when you know your body is slowly failing on you.
