You couldn't believe this was happening. How could he have been so stupid?! You were sitting next to one of your friends, Sandpaw, as you watched Bluestar, Lionblaze, and Greypaw return. Following behind them was an orange kittypet! You sighed. Greypaw was your best friend, and he did a lot of stupid things, but bringing a kittypet to camp was definitely the dumbest. You walked up to him, the kittypet and twoleg stench burning your nose.
"Who is this?" You snarled. "And what is he doing here?" The grey apprentice turned to you.
"Oh! Right. (Y/A/N) this is Rusty. Rusty, this is (Y/A/N)!" He said, smiling. You rolled your eyes.
"Why in the name of Starclan did you bring a kittypet to the camp?!" You hissed. Sandpaw had walked up.
"Yeah, Greypaw, kittypets belong with twolegs, not clan cats." The cat called Rusty snarled.
"I can be a clan cat if i want to!" You all turned to him, you and Sandpaw glaring, and he sharnk under your gaze. "The blue she-cat, Bluestar, said i could join." You and Sandpaw share a look. You turn to Bluestar, who is talking with Longtail. Rusty walks up to them, and that's when you notice his collar and bell, which rung with every pawstep. Longtail turned, snarling. Rusty jumped, then crouched down as Longtail began to circle him. You whisper to Greypaw,
"Can he fight?" He nods, then tilts his ear so you can so a nick in it.
"That's what he gave me when i tried to chase him off." Well at least he had the sense to chase him off. You thought. Or at least give me that answer. You turn back to the fight to see Longtail's ear bleeding, and that blue collar lying on the ground. Bluestar lept between them.
"He has lost his collar in a battle to prove himself. Back off Longtail." The warrior panted, and still glaring at Rusty, he retreated to the medicine den. "Rusty will now become a member of our clan. Treat him as you would a littermate. We will now begin his naming ceremony." You barley paid attention as Rusty became Firepaw, thinking about how a kittypet had fought and won against a trained warrior! At the end of the ceremony, Greypaw nudged you out of your thoughts.
"You gunna come eat? You've just been kinda standing there." You shake your head to clear it.
"Yeah. How did you meet him anyway?" You ask as you grab a squirrel to share.
"Well, i found him in our territory hunting a mouse, so of course, i start to creep towards him, when i get a fox scent." By now, Firepaw, Sandpaw, and Dustpaw had gathered, eating and listening. "So i go to get him out of there, and he thinks I'm attacking him, so he starts fighting me. He's really good. I'll carry this nick around for the rest of my life!" He chuckled and Firepaw beemed proudly. You hated to admit it, but he had the makings of a great fighter.
"So," you said, turning to the kittypet, "What made you want to leave your soft kittypet life for the hardships of clan life?" He look stuned by the question, then answered.
"It always was too quiet over there. No excitement. And, i got a wierd dream of hunting a mouse in the forest, so that's what i did. And, I'm sure you know the rest." Dustpaw and Sandpaw stood up and turned to you.
"We're going to train with our mentors." He asked you. "You wanna come with?" His pelt seemed to heat up. You shook your head.
"Sorry, not today. Greypaw and i have to change the elders' nests." He nodded and he and Sandpaw left. You stand and strech. "C'mon Greypaw, let's go take out the old nests."
"Wait, what about me?" You turned to Firepaw, who had a lost look on his face.
"Go ask Bluestar. That's her den over there." Greypaw said, pointing with his tail towards the den. "She'll give you something to do." Firepaw nodded and made his way across the clearing, cats straing at him as he walked. You then shake out your fur and take a deep breath.
"Ugh, it still smells like kittypets and twolegs over here. I still can't believe you brought him here." You muttered as you entered the elders' den. Some of them were out, lying in the sun or out for a walk, while a couple were still asleep.
"Just give him a chance, (Y/A/N). He's strong, and it takes a lot of courage to leave behind everything you know and go to something completely different." He said as you start on an empty nest.
"Are you actually sticking up for him?" You asked in disbelief. Greystipe shrugged.
"I found him and brought him here. So shouldn't i?" He said as you begin to get fresh moss. You nudge him playfully.
"You're too nice for your own good." You hear him mumble about something, but don't bother him about it.
"Let's just get this done before the elders rip our pelts off." Greypaw nodded and the two of you got to work.
