Imagine: Because of Fred's hospitalization, Veronica feels that she and Archie are growing apart
Word Count: 1780
"Veronica, do you hear yourself? Fred Andrews was shot and now he is in the hospital and you are worrying because Archie hasn't called. Try thinking about how he's feeling right now." Hermione reasoned.
"I know, Mom. I just want to be their for him because I care about him so much and I," Veronica took a deep breath, "I just feel like he may be shutting me out, which I do understand. It's just so hard being away from him, you get that don't you?"
Hugging her daughter, Hermione began to speak, "of course I do, honey. How do you think I've been holding up without your father around?"
"By cozying up to Fred Andrews," Veronica shot back as she pushed out of her mother's arms. "You are well aware, Mom, that I do not condone your hanging around or whatever it was that you were or are doing with Mr. Andrews, but the least you could visit your business partner as he's dying in a hospital bed!"
Veronica huffed, feeling as though she might cry, and grabbed her things that were scattered across the Lodge's living room while her mother rambled on.
"This is why I need to speak to Archie. He truly understands me, which is a lot more than I could say about you!" The raven-haired girl whined, shutting the door behind her.
She stuck her hand deep down into her purse, rummaging around the mess until she grabbed her phone. Knowing his number by heart, Veronica dialed Archie quickly only to be left with his monotone answering machine.
"Hey, Archie," she paused to take a deep breath and collect herself, trying to not let the tears welling in her eyes fall. "I just wanted to warn you that I'm coming to the hospital to visit you and your dad. I know it's sudden and you just need time with your dad, but uh-"
Before she could finish her thought, the voicemail box cut off her message. Veronica bit down on the inside of her cheek trying to hold in her emotions as she hailed down a cab. The car ride was quiet and seemed to fuel her worries about her still new romance. Prior to the incident with Fred at Pop's, the young couple became so attached and never spent a moment without the other; now that the love-struck teenage girl had barely talked to, yet alone seen her Archie, her heart ached without his presence.
As soon as the cab was parked at the curb of the hospital and Veronica had paid the driver, she ran to the front desk, her signature heels clomping against the tile floor.
"Hello, I'm looking for Fred Andrews' room. I'm here to visit him and his son-my boyfriend. Can you point me in the direction of his room?"
