"Galra always have good aim," Lance thought dumbly. There were only a few left, all they would have to do is take them out and leave. It was just Keith and him now. Their part of the mission was to distract while Pidge and Hunk try to shut down the system running the ship, and Shiro gathers as much information while freeing prisoners. Easy, right? Well, in hindsight, yes, quite easy. But now, as the blue paladin shot aimlessly at the three Galra soldiers cornering them, while and the red paladin guarded his back, was it as easy? Hell no. But it wasn't like they hadn't been in these situations before.
I've been here before
But always hit the floor
I've spent a lifetime runnin'
And I always get away
Lance couldn't help but notice how pretty his boyfriend looked when he was focused on something, but he couldn't stare for to long, for the two had been separated, Lance taking on two and Keith taking on one
But with you I'm feeling something
That makes me want to stay
"Galra always have good aim," Lance thought once more. "But I have better."
One shot, down. Another shot, down.
I'm prepared for this
I never shoot to miss
But I feel like a storm is coming
Something was off.
Keith's bayard had been knocked out of his hand, and the last Galra was ready to take a shot that would end his beloved red paladin. Lance knew what he had to do.
If I'm gonna make it through the day
Then there's no more use in runnin'
This is something I gotta face
Lance ran as quickly as possible, stepping in front of Keith. Time seemed to move in slow motion, and he knew Keith would never forgive him, but Keith would catch him, right?
If I risk it all
Could you break my fall?
Because he couldn't just let the boy he loved die.
He wouldn't be able to even breathe without Keith.
How do I live? How do I breathe?
When you're not here I'm suffocating
I wanna feel love, run through my blood
Yet again, how would Keith deal? The thought tugged at his heartstrings, but he let it go. As the fateful gunshot went off from the Galra's gun, Lance pulled the trigger of his bayard, careful to shoot exactly the right spot: the head.
This is where it ends for the blue paladin.
Tell me, is this where I give it all up?
As the soldier crumbled to the ground in defeat, Lance felt the middle of his chest become suddenly warm. And painful. Very painful. He felt himself stumble backwards, and then surprisingly, someone caught him.
Keith.
Well, he couldn't say he was that surprised.
"You...you c-caught me." Lance managed to choke out. Barely, he could see Keith's red and puffy eyes, most likely from crying, above him.
"Oh, Lance, of course. Of course I got you. B-But why? Why? Why did you do that?" Keith asked, shuddering a bit more at each word.
For you I have to risk it all
"I'm n-not l-letting....them...kill y-you." Lance said, blood now pouring out of his mouth. He felt Keith's warm hands push his hair out of his face and tuck him in closer to his chest. Lance felt warm. Lance felt safe.
"Lance, don't you dare die on me! You hear? If you do I'll kill you!" Keith cried, but it was slightly muffled to Lance.
"Hey, K-Keith?" Lance mumbled. "I love y-you, okay? D-Don't forget, or I-I'll haunt y-your ass." Lance could already feel a warm darkness swarm his thoughts.
"Hey, hey! C'mon Lance, please! Hey, I love you! I love you so much!" Keith was now shaking. Lance curled in closer to Keith. Keith shakily took Lance's hand into his own, and with the last of his energy, Lance brought Keith's hand to his lips and kissed it softly.
And then he went limp. His chest no longer rose. He didn't even get the luxury of closing his eyes.
Keith's cries echoed against the metals walls as he clutched the boy he love as close as he could
