Chapter 9: Ice Skating

Kayley's pov

It was the 22nd of December and I was supposed to fly up to see Niall on tour. We have skyped a couple times, but we haven’t seen each other in person in awhile. It has been quite lonely without Niall here.

I got a phone call from my mum. “Kayley, the whole family is going ice skating tonight, you should come!”

“Okay mom” I said.

“We will pick you up at 6”.

“Ok”. I was excited to go ice skating with my family, but I wanted Niall there as much as I knew it wouldn’t happen. It was a couple hours before ice skating then Niall texted me. “Hey baby, I miss you” he said.

“I miss you too, I am flying up in a couple days to see you” I said.

“Okay, I’ll see you soon.”

“Okay bye baby” I said.

“Bye”. It upsets me every time I talk to Niall, but I had to stay strong. A couple of hours went by, and my family finally came.

My mom honked the horn, and I grabbed my phone just in case Niall called. “Hey” my mom said.

“Hi” I said. I didn’t feel like doing anything besides sitting in the house waiting for my flight but I knew I had to do something.

The car ride there was very awkward. My mom was acting really weird, and my whole family kept smiling at me. It felt like something was going on, but I just shook it off and let my family have the excitement. We arrived at the ice skating rink, and I got my ice skates. It was hard seeing all of the couples skating around, and kissing each other, being here just made it worse. I finished tying my ice skates, and decided to go on the ice. Ever since I was a little kid I was always a great ice skater. The ice always made me feel free in a way that I couldn’t explain to anyone, and whenever I was on the ice everything and everyone faded away. After a couple of minutes, I forgot all about Niall and how he was away.

I was laughing, and having a great time with my family this was the first time I has smiled in a few days.

It was getting colder and colder that night, so I decided to sit on the bench for awhile and just watch the rest of my family.

Just as I was about to leave to go get hot chocolate, I noticed girls screaming on the side of the rink. Whatever, I thought and continued walking. Then I heard “KAYLEY PLEASE COME TO THE CENTER OF THE ICE SKATING RINK”. The voice sounded familiar then I realized why the girls were screaming. I walked over to the entrance of the rink, and skated on to the ice. Niall was standing in the middle of the rink, in a tuxedo. “NIALL!” I screamed. We both skated over to each other, as fast as we could. When I finally got to him, he picked me up and spun me around. “What are you doing here? I was supposed to fly up and visit you!”

 “To do this” he said.

Niall got down on one knee on the freezing cold ice, and said “Kayley we have been going out for a couple of months, and I have fallen deeply in love with you. I see myself with you and no one else, will you please marry me?” I looked back at my mom and she had a big smile on her face.

I looked down at Niall who staring right at me, and I said “Yes”. Warm tears rolled down the side of my face as Niall slid the ring on my finger. He got back up on his 2 feet, and planted a sweet but warm kiss on my lips.
