Don't get me wrong, I love the Handplates AU, but when looking at the some very simple things in Undertale... It can't work, the whole of the Handplates AU takes place after Chara and Asriel died, but before Frisk fell, meaning it happens before the game Undertale, but it has a lot to do with how the skelebrothers act in the game. The idea is that Papyrus wears gloves and Sans keeps his right hand in his pocket because they are hiding handplates that have been nailed into their hands.

It can't be denied that Papyrus always wears gloves, we see this throughout the entire game and even through the credits at the end of a Pacifist route. So there is no help there and we have plenty of proof that Sans is left handed, he reaches out shake Frisk's hand with his left hand, in the Genocide route, during Sans's battle, he uses his left hand to control how he slams you into the wall with blue magic. Leaving his right hand unseen. Or is it? Think back over the game, when have we seen Sans's right hand. You can see both of Sans's hands when he shrugs after every pun in the Pacifist route. It looks like this.

We don't have the greatest view, but if there was a handplate Frisk would have noticed and instead of the black outline under his hand we would have seen light grey instead, as proof of the metal

We don't have the greatest view, but if there was a handplate Frisk would have noticed and instead of the black outline under his hand we would have seen light grey instead, as proof of the metal. And on another point, Sans and Papyrus would have died not to long after receiving the handplates. Though there is no proof, I'm assuming that if a monster gets cut, just like humans, the cut can get infected. Something like the handplates that were screwed onto the hands leaving open wounds underneath are almost guaranteed to get infected, the sight of the wounds would be dark, moist and warm with no protection from bacteria, the perfect place for fungus like gangrene to grow. So it would be unlikely that Sans and Papyrus would have survived long enough to meet Frisk, in fact it is unlikely they would have survived long enough to escape.

Having said that, it is literally impossible for the Handplates AU to exist. But that doesn't really matter in the end because impossibilities are what AUs are for and at the end of the day we can still sit back and enjoy Handplates for what is, even if it wouldn't normally be able to exist. Anyway I hoped you liked this headcannon even if you really like the Handplates AU, if you did please leave a vote, comment what you thought and follow if you want to see more. Hope you have a great day! Bye~!
